Studio Six Digital, the creators of the popular AudioTools test & measurement platform for Apple iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems, has brought the production of all hardware products, including its popular iTestMic2 and iAudioInterface2, back in-house. The Californian company also updated all products to have USB-C connections to work with the latest iPhone 15 models, all of the USB-C iPads, as well as Mac and Windows computers and even Android devices.

Many audio and acoustics professionals, as well as audio enthusiasts globally have learned to appreciate the advanced audio test and measurement tools that Studio Six Digital creates for the iOS, iPadOS and macOS platforms. Used for applications such as live sound monitoring, sound system setup and EQ, home theater calibration, community noise control, its AudioTools apps and software have consistently gained users who appreciate the large variety of powerful, comprehensive tests.

This has been proven over the years, and particularly during the global pandemic, as the AudioTools family of products demonstrated to be the most cost effective test and measurement mobile platform globally. The apps are easy and intuitive to operate, they allow exporting data automatically, they meet ANSI and ISO Type 1 and Class 1 requirements (with suitable audio hardware) and offer a rich set of tools and utilities developed over many years to provide features for every application.

Studio Six Digital was founded in 2007 by Andrew Smith, which is also responsible for most of the company's software and hardware designs. Based in Ventura, CA, Studio Six Digital has been linked to audio amplification manufacturer AudioControl, following the acquisition in 2018 of part of the capital from the company's founder Andrew Smith. With AudioControl acquired by AVPro Global in 2023, it was time for Studio Six Digital to reorganize and take control of manufacturing and sales of its extended range of professional audio test and measurement products, which are essential to complement the AudioTools software. Particularly, because these products are now completely ready to support the latest Apple hardware and with the exciting possibilities of the iPhone 15 now also using USB-C, there was never a better time to combine these products.

As Studio Six Digital explains in their website, the transition to USB-C, first in the Mac and iPad and now also in the iPhone, paved the way for an easier setup and integration of measurement hardware. All AudioTools apps and software, as well as the popular iAudioInterface2 interface, and the two iTestMic2, or uPrecisionMic measurement microphones are ready to work with the iPhone 15, creating a complete mobile professional audio test & measurement system. A strong momentum that paves the way for future growth.

As Andrew Smith, Studio Six Digital's owner and technical director, explains: "Bringing the hardware production in-house allows us to better control calibration and quality control, and assures that we will consistently have product available for our customers. Also, we are enjoying the direct contact with our customers and being able to discuss their various use cases, which drives the development process."

The company is now able to offer directly all its USB-C Microphones and Audio Interfaces, as reflected by the updated Studio Six Digital website, where a complete list of international distributors is also available.
The iPrecisionMic USB-C is a Class One professional microphone, for use in the most demanding applications with a a titanium capsule for extended stability and flat response. Perfect to extend an AudioTools setup for the lowest-noise measurements, the uPrecisionMic now plugs directly into any USB-C equipped iOS device - no more Apple Connection Kit for Lightning devices needed! When AudioTools is opened, it instantly creates a Type 1 certified sound level meter and analyzer. The uPrecisionMic USB-C is available both with and without a Type 1 Calibration Certificate, starting at $1099.

The versatile iTestMic2 USB-C is the Class Two general purpose test and measurement microphone from Studio Six Digital, which includes a 1/8" signal output jack to send test signals out, suitable for most commercial use cases. Now, the iTestMic2 USB-C brings professional audio measurements to new Apple devices with USB-C ports (including all the latest Apple Silicon Macs) and it also works with other devices. At only $229, the iTestMic2 is now effectively one of the most affordable ways to have a calibrated SPL Meter, RTA, FFT analyzer and more.
And of course, the existing iAudioInterface2 two-channel audio interface continues to work with both USB-C and Lightning devices, allowing users to connect XLR-based, phantom-powered microphones. This is a perfect configuration for use with the advanced Transfer Function module in AudioTools.
For existing users of the iTestMic2 and iPrecisionMic microphones with Lightning connectors, the good news is that Apple offers a simple and elegant adapter that allows all Lightning accessories to work with USB-C equipped iPads and iPhones.

All audio hardware is now being sold directly by Studio Six Digital.
