Swedish studio solutions innovators Softube introduced a new generation of its mixing control surface, the new Console 1 Channel Mk III. Taking even further the concept of a natural hardware expansion of the software the powers today's music production studios, Softube designed a surface that allows faster mixing with a knob-per-function workflow design. Touch-sensitive Analog Feel potentiometers deliver the same tactile feeling of the actual expensive hardware, matching the authentic sounds from the company known for precision modeling classic studio equipment.
Once upon a time, a Swedish audio software company decided it was time to have a physical extension for their successful plugins, and that was how Softube launched its Console 1 concept, later expanded with a separate Console 1 Fader surface. This helped propel the Softube Console 1 mixing ecosystem as more than a simple DAW/plug-in controller, to create a complete in-the-box mixing solution.
Softube has been creating software plug-ins and hybrid hardware/software solutions since 2003, with officially-licensed channels from Weiss Engineering, Empirical Labs, Chandler Limited, Summit Audio, and Solid State Logic, and many more. And the Console 1 also offers Universal Audio plug-in compatibility.
At the core, the Console 1 control surface is an excellent extension of the excellent plugins that Softube is known for. Authentic, timeless big studio sounds, exquisitely modeling big studio gear, from Tube-Tech to Weiss. The updated Console 1 Channel comes with Softube's Core Mixing Suite software and delivers all the sounds of Softube Tape, FET Compressor Mk II, and Bus Processor in versatile preamp, shape, equalization, and compression sections, and an innovative drive befitting Softube’s stellar saturation reputation. It's Softube's take on the perfect channel strip, but users will appreciate the ability to draw on Softube's one-of-a-kind catalog to design their unique dream console.
The new updated Console 1 Channel Mk III also expands the emulation experience of classic studio equipment, with an hardware surface that improves on the typical cheap plastic controllers. Softube engineers ensured that every rotation of the Console 1 Channel's Analog Feel potentiometers delivers a sensation that rivals the originals. "The weighty, precise, and resistant turn of these knobs underscores the immersive mixing experience of Channel. With an increase of more than ten times the resolution over the earlier generation, Console 1 Channel is the future-proofed foundation of the modern mixing workflow," Softube explains.
As a studio control surface, the Console 1 Channel Mk III is also the centerpiece of operations, and should directly replace the need to use a mouse when controlling any of the software features. As the Swedish company explains, the Console 1 Channel's knob-per-function design allows users "to use their hands to mix and their ears to sculpt their sound." Dual high-resolution smart screens and an industry-defining 1:1 workflow mean users always understand the adjustments they are making and where to find the most important parameters. With the increase in efficiency that Channel delivers, users can put the focus back on the creative process.
The new Softube Console 1 Channel Mk III is made with premium bead-blasted aluminum in a dark finish, features two high-resolution OLED screens, and 27 Analog Feel potentiometers with touch sensitivity. The surface connects and is powered through two USB-C ports with daisy chain compatibility, and there are VESA and 19-inch rack mounting options. It works with all major DAWs without mapping, including Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, LUNA, Reaper, FL Studio, Nuendo, and Cakewalk.
