ROHM Announces New 32bit D/A Converter IC for High-End Audio Products

March 2 2022, 01:15
ROHM Semiconductor announced that it has developed the new BD34352EKV digital-to-analog converter IC (DAC) and corresponding evaluation board (BD34352EKV-EVK-001), supporting playback of high-resolution audio sources in high-fidelity audio equipment. Complementing its latest MUS-IC BD34301EKV flagship DAC, the new product was designed to maximally extract and convert high resolution digital audio data to analog audio signals in new product designs, particularly new Digital Audio Players and USB-DACs.

Leveraging 50 years of expertise in developing audio ICs has allowed ROHM to establish its "sound quality design technology" that the Japanese manufacturers says it's capable of extracting the full amount of information from sound sources and offer products that deliver superior sound quality, including sound processor and power management ICs.

Following this technology principles, the latest ROHM BD34301EKV flagship DAC chip - part of ROHM’s MUS-IC series - has been evaluated and praised for its sound quality since its release in 2021, and which continues to see worldwide adoption. However, to meet the growing demand from manufacturers for a 32-bit DAC chip that can be used in a wider range of audio equipment, ROHM developed the BD34352EKV.

This new DAC can be configured for mono or two-channel 32-bit systems, supporting sampling frequencies from 32kHz to 768kHz plus DSD 2.8 MHz, 5.6 MHz, 11.2 MHz, and 22.4 MHz.

"The new BD34352EKV DAC chip is specially tuned to powerfully express the energy of sound sources while maintaining the natural flat sound characteristics of ROHM’s DAC chip design concept. At the same time, an advanced digital filter is included – the same as used for the BD34301EKV. This leads to superior numerical performance (S/N ratio: 126dB, THD+N: -112dB) of the DAC chip, making it ideal for high-end audio equipment," the company says.

In addition, the BD34352EKV features pin compatibility with the BD34301EKV, and has the same customizable filter as the flagship IC. This enables different sound quality tunings for each audio device, reducing development load while contributing to the creation of the ideal sound sought by developers and audio manufacturers. Otherwise, the new DAC is manufactured following the same high grade process for the MUS-IC range in a vertically integrated production system, monitored by ROHM’s team of experienced and dedicated engineers.

ROHM confirms that his new BD34352EKV DAC Chip is available for mass production and sampling now ($16/unit, excluding tax). The new BD34352EKV-EVK-001 Evaluation Board will be sold by Digi-Key, Mouser, and Farnell. More information about this complete solution is available here.
