pureLiFi Unveils Next-Gen Connectivity That Breaks Through Barriers with LiFi at MWC 2024

February 28 2024, 18:35
LiFi technology specialists pureLiFi introduced its latest innovations at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024. LiFi is ready to redefine connectivity using light and break through conventional wireless boundaries and the Barcelona was a strong show for pureLiFi. The company announced LINXC Bridge, a collaborative project with Solace Power, which addresses the challenge of providing robust connectivity indoors, particularly for 5G mmWave signals.

Wireless connectivity, together with wireless power, continue to be areas of focus for technology players in the consumer and industrial spaces. Named in CES 2024 Tech Trends to watch, LiFi represents a significant leap forward in using light rather than radio frequencies for wireless communications. pureLiFi's full network access product range boasts IEEE 802.11bb compliance following the ratification of the new global LiFi standard in 2023. Unlike traditional wireless technologies such as WiFi and 5G, LiFi communicates wirelessly using light, overcoming common limitations such as buffering, congestion, and vulnerable signals.

The IEEE 802.11bb standard defines the physical layer specifications and system architectures for wireless communication using light waves. This new standard sets the foundation for the widespread adoption of LiFi technology and paves the way for the interoperability of LiFi systems with the successful WiFi standard. Ratification of the standard was concluded in June 2023.

The new LiFi IEEE 802.11bb standard enables wireless networks that are able to sustain high data rates for multiple users, transmission security, uninterrupted connection, and no performance degradation in dense deployments by exploiting the visible and infrared light spectrum, effective where traditional radio frequencies are restricted, prohibited, or inefficient.

pureLiFi has been showcasing how LiFi is ready to unleash a wave of bandwidth, speed, and reliable communications. A leading provider of LiFi technology, offering solutions for high-speed, secure wireless communication using light, pureLiFi is bringing to market the world's first commercial light antennas — the optoelectronic components which make LiFi possible — for all kinds of devices, from industrial to consumer, and from smart cars to smartphones. For home and office applications, pureLiFi's network access solutions offer low latency, congestion free audio and video streaming as an alternative to WiFi. The company, based in Edinburgh, was founded by the "Father of LiFi," Prof Harald Haas and Dr. Mostafa Afgani in 2012.

For MWC 2024, pureLiFi unveiled the new LINXC Bridge, a collaborative project between pureLiFi and Canadian company Solace Power, addressing the challenge of providing robust connectivity indoors, particularly for 5G mmWave signals. Solace Power develops wireless power-based solutions featuring proximity sensing and data. By leveraging wireless power and LiFi, the LINXC Bridge significantly reduces costs and logistical challenges associated with signal transmission from outside to inside buildings. This innovative window-mounted system is self-installable, eliminating the need for costly professional installation, shortening time to market for network operators and dramatically improving indoor connectivity for enterprise and the home.

Another new solution from pureLiFi is SkyLite, a whole-room access point that covers over 50 sqm (540 sq feet) of space, flooding the room with high speed, low latency and highly secure wireless connectivity. The LiFi Cube is a plug-and-play access point designed for simple, secure working from home, gaming, streaming and on-the-move connectivity, offering both speed and privacy. LiFi Cube, SkyLite and all of pureLiFi’s client devices are 802.11bb compliant.

"Mobile World Congress is about pushing boundaries and shaping the future of connectivity," says Alistair Banham, pureLiFi CEO. "We are excited to bring products solving both today's and tomorrow’s connectivity challenges. LiFi is now ready to augment and extend other wireless technologies ushering in a new era of bandwidth, speed and reliable communications."
