PSB Speakers Launches In-Room CSIR SUB with Optional Amplifier and Multiple Placement Options

February 20 2020, 00:30
PSB Speakers announced availability of its flexible CustomSound In-Room Subwoofer (CSIR SUB). The CSIR SUB, originally previewed at CEDIA 2019 in Denver, is now available in both Black and White finishes and offers several highly versatile and elegant mounting solutions to satisfy any application. It can disappear into the décor of any room, and yet is stylish enough to be a design feature on its own. When in standing mode, the integrated IsoAcoustics isolators manage energy and provide a high level of isolation for audio speakers over the entire audio spectrum.

Compact in size and extremely thin, the new PSB Speakers CSIR SUB ($1299 U.S MSRP) can be used in three distinct ways – standing up on its narrow, low profile plinth and placed upright, set on its back allowing it to be tucked out of the way, behind or under furniture or wall-mounted (bracket included) to maximize floor space. The 10“, high-performance shallow driver with a glass fibre/PMI foam sandwich cone and dual rubber surround, offers deep and resonant bass, well beyond what one would expect. In any of the three possible placements, the new subwoofer is voiced by the company's founder and chief designer Paul Barton, to deliver tight, detailed bass response and is comfortable reproducing the most demanding home theatre and music tracks.

The CSIR SUB is ideally matched with PSB’s new CS 500W subwoofer amplifier, which PSB Speakers designed to make implementation even easier. This digital 500 watt subwoofer amplifier delivers ample power for up to two PSB subwoofers in parallel. The DSP is capable of being calibrated to several selectable eq settings as well as containing profiles tailored for the PSB subwoofers. A built-in limiter circuit filters the incoming information and keeps it from driving the subwoofer beyond safe operating parameters. It can be powered up by several means including signal sensing and 12volt trigger. A rack mount kit enables the subwoofer amp to be mounted into a 1U rack space.

One of the innovative features of the CSIR SUB, following the recent announcement of collaboration between PSB Speakers and IsoAcoustics allows for an important enhancement when the subwoofer is placed upright and free standing. The use of integrated IsoAcoustics isolators, based on the brand's GAIA series, significantly reduce the transfer of resonant energy from the speaker to the supporting surface and prevents reflexions off the surface below and being conducted back up into the speaker enclosure. The isolators are directional and are aligned with the speaker’s drivers to provide greater clarity and focus, allowing the subwoofer to perform at its best.

“Along with our other CS Subs, the new PSB CSIR SUB and its dedicated Amplifier, offer the professional system designer multiple design and application options for serious low frequency performance,” comments Joe de Jesus, Lenbrook’s Product Manager for Custom Installation. “Our goal has been to create a powerful sub amplifier that can drive up to two of the new models at a time and, with a set of pre-calibrations for each of our subwoofers, ensure a much more seamless blend. The subwoofer application will inherently take less time to deploy and be considerably tighter and more precise. Tremendous synergy at work here with our new subs and amplifier.”
