Lithe Audio Introduces Modular Ceiling Speaker Including WiSA For Wireless Sound

February 17 2020, 01:10
At ISE 2020, visitors could find multiple companies looking ahead and offering Audio-over-IP networking solutions, fast becoming the norm among system integrators. Other companies, like UK-based Lithe Audio have installation solutions that offer the complete scope of connectivity options for residential or commercial audio, combining Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Chromecast Audio and AirPlay 2. At ISE 2020, Lithe Audio surprised also by showing a ceiling speaker that even offers an optional PoE module and a WiSA module.

This was the first we’ve seen a Summit Wireless module directly implemented on a ceiling speaker. The Oregon-based provider of immersive, wireless sound technology for next-generation home entertainment systems, partnered with Lithe Audio to offer an installation-ready solution that is compatible with the Wireless Speaker and Audio Association (WiSA) technology. At the Integrated Systems Europe show in Amsterdam, the young British company launched a 6.5 inch ceiling speaker that expands even further its previous range of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ceiling speakers. The new speaker can be powered over Ethernet (PoE) and supports popular streaming applications such as Airplay 2, Google Cast and Alexa. But with the addition of the Summit module, Lithe Audio will be able to also leverage the speaker in commercial and home cinema environments.

The new speaker offering takes advantage of Summit’s proven wireless audio technology, capable of supporting up to 8 speakers. The wireless platform transmits high-resolution 24-bit digital audio at 48kHz / 96kHz with less than 1/10th the latency of a Bluetooth audio device, keeping movie soundtracks and music content in perfect sync. Summit technology ensures that all speakers in the system are synchronized within 1 microsecond, which eliminates any chance of phase distortion, even when using all eight channels.

“By far, the Summit wireless audio technology is the most robust we’ve tested,” says Wesley Siu, co-founder and director of Lithe Audio. “At Lithe Audio, our ceiling speaker customers demand quality, and with Summit technology you get both a reliable wireless link without compromising audio performance.”
