Bluetooth speakers are one of the leading product categories in consumer electronics and consumers certainly are starting to rely on the convenience of this wireless audio protocol to stream audio from a smartphone, tablet or computer. Now, Lithe Audio, a young UK-based AV brand decided to expand the scope of Bluetooth technology also to installation ceiling speakers, allowing an easy expansion of multizone audio in any room, from the bathroom to the kitchen or bedroom.
Lithe Audio announced the UK launch of its innovative Bluetooth ceiling speakers, which the company say are “completely different to anything else currently available in this sector. They are a fully integrated ‘all-in-one’ solution, meaning that unlike other well-known wireless home sound systems, they do not need to be connected to a separate amplifier. The speakers deliver superb sound quality, are easy-to-install and have IP versions for safe use in bathrooms.”
Since the new Lithe Audio range targets fixed installation, the solution doesn’t rely completely on Bluetooth to ‘pair’ the speakers. A Master speaker, which is paired to any smartphone, tablet, TV, PC, or any Bluetooth V4.0 device, receives the audio stream wirelessly via Bluetooth, while a Slave speaker is connected to the Master via speaker cable. A four-digit PIN code allows for more secure initial setup. Once connected to a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as a smartphone or tablet, the speaker’s integrated device memory will allow instant audio playback for future use. The speaker's wireless range is up to 10 meters, and allows for streaming of music from online services such as Spotify, YouTube, Deezer, Apple Music and more. The speakers can also be hardwired to any non-Bluetooth device via RCA input with autodetect, to allow playback of audio from stereos, televisions or computers.
Designed by Lithe Audio’s team of specialist home electronic product designers, the frameless speakers only protrude 3mm from the ceiling, and have clever magnetic grill covers which can easily be removed for cleaning or for replacement with a different colored grill finish. The grill can alternatively be painted with ceiling paint to create a virtually invisible look to these high performance speakers.
There are two base models in the range, one with a 6.5” Kevlar woven cone and another which is IP44 rated for installation in bathrooms and uses a 6.5” polypropylene cone. Both models feature a 1.2” titanium tweeter and are 210mm in diameter. The speakers have a built-in Class-D 50W RMS amplifier with one output for an additional passive speaker.
Founded in 2014 by the team of professional electrical product designers behind the successful Retrotouch brand, Lithe Audio designs, manufactures and sells a broad range of ceiling speakers, wall speakers, wireless garden speakers and TV accessories such a wall mounts - all for commercial or residential applications. All Lithe Audio products are designed in-house by the same established Retrotouch team.
Lithe Audio targets its range of products as ideal for consumers/DIY enthusiasts, builders, developers, interior designers, commercial property developers and hotels. The new wireless speakers took over 18 months in development until they met the designer’s highest standards. As the company’s chief designer puts it: “We work forwards from what our customer needs are, and not backwards from what the technology allows. Everything we sell must be simple and intuitive to use for everyone from the developer to the whole family.”
