Summit Wireless Technologies, announced that Hansong, one of the largest Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) to major audio brands, will offer a new technology reference platform targeting wireless soundbars, audio hubs, and speakers based on Summit's Internet of Things (IoT) transceiver module. The new Hansong development platform will offer a ready to use solution for high-volume projects in the home theater market.
The new low-cost module from Summit us named “Discovery” and is powered by Summit Wireless advanced Wi-Fi compatible software, designed for fixed low latency wireless audio transmission. The solution uses a standard Wi-Fi network connection with AES 256 bit encryption, and can support up to four tightly synchronized audio channels, ideally suited for entry level home cinema applications. The solution is ideal for wireless soundbar rear channels and subwoofers, or stand alone systems up to 3.1 configurations.
In the high volume home theater market, dominated by soundbars, companies are often forced to compromise wireless audio performance and reliability to achieve a cost advantage, putting their brand at risk. Summit's Discovery highly integrated wireless audio IoT class module and embedded software delivers reliable home theater performance, ultra-low power, in a cost effective form factor over standard Wi-Fi.
Discovery is the first module to offer “ConexUs” technology for quick setup, taking only seconds to connect the audio network requiring no special user interface or access to network passwords. Summit partnered with Espressif Systems, a leading vendor in Wi-Fi modules that bridges the gap between performance and cost in Wi-Fi based audio solutions.
The Summit Discovery module is a compact, production-ready transceiver module design, able to transmit up to 4 independent 48kHz uncompressed PCM audio channels with low latency. In receive mode the module mates to the amplifier in active speakers and ensures tight speaker to speaker synchronization. The Summit transceiver will support a room size of 10 square meters while keeping speakers perfectly synchronized.
“We see that thin Smart TVs have created a resurgence in adding supplemental wireless audio in every room of the home,” says Helge Kristensen, Vice President of Hansong. “The Hansong reference design includes software and hardware needed to allow our customers to quickly design their sound system of choice while taking advantage of Summits lower module cost structure for a premium audio experience.”
“Hansong has been a valued partner to Summit and major audio brands around the world for many years,” adds Tony Parker, Summit's Vice President, Business Development and Strategy. “We are pleased that Hansong has decided to support our Discovery module technology and excited to see how it will help brands grow the market by enabling new price points for consumers.”
Hansong Technology was established in 1998 as a manufacturer of high performance, premium audio equipment. Since that time, the company profile has significantly expanded at a controlled pace to cover ODM and JDM manufacturing in multiple areas of consumer and commercial electronics. Hansong's engineering department provides cross industry technology platforms for home theater, Hi-Fi and AV systems, custom installation, and professional audio products.
