Glensound Debuts Greater Divine Intelligent Network Audio Monitor

August 19 2024, 01:10
Heading up to another IBC show in Amsterdam, Glensound unveiled several new products making its debut at IBC2024. Among those, the British audio networking specialists will introduce the Greater Divine Intelligent Network Audio Monitor, significantly expanding the possibilities for Dante-connected systems. Glensound launched the Divine in 2019, the first network-connected, self-powered audio monitor, which has proven very popular. The Greater Divine is a larger 30 watts two-way design, powered by PoE+ with 8 Dante input channels.

Now approaching 60 years in business, Glensound has designed and manufactured innovative and practical audio products for broadcast, live events and now esports. Throughout its history it has been responsive to special design requests, becoming a regular supplier to many broadcasters around the world for audio problem-solving. Today the company specializes in Dante and AES67 networked audio, allowing it to deliver the same specialist problem-solving point products, now with integrated connectivity and remote setup, monitoring and control.

The concept of a speaker that connects directly to a network makes a lot of sense in any installation where signals are distributed over Ethernet, particularly when that speaker can be powered directly by the network via a single cable connection with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). Among many possibilities, it becomes easy to select and monitor different audio channels distributed over the network, including individual inputs, pairs, or all inputs.

Glensound, introduced the original Divine in 2019, paving the way for new possibilities in networked audio monitoring. The concept gained significant attention and won the PLASA Innovation Award in 2021. However, Glensound's commitment to continuous improvement and customer feedback has now led to the development of the Greater Divine. As the name suggests, the Greater Divine offers more in every aspect – it is a larger, more powerful two-way stand-alone speaker unit designed to meet the growing demands of professional audio environments.

One of the key upgrades comparing with the original Divine is the power output. The Greater Divine boasts a 30-watt output, a significant increase from its predecessor, enabled by the use of Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) or an optional local DC power input. This enhancement ensures that the speaker can deliver robust and clear audio in various settings, from live operations and commercial audio applications to theaters, museums, schools, and even small PA setups.

According to Glensound, connectivity and control have been major focal points in the design of the Greater Divine. It features eight customizable Dante input channels, double the number offered by the original Divine. This increase allows for greater flexibility in audio source management. Additionally, a local analog audio input and local power have been added, providing more options for integrating various audio sources.

All parameters of the Greater Divine can be managed through the Windows 10/11 Glencontroller app, which offers the capability to control multiple speakers simultaneously. This software control includes new usability options for compression, limiting, and EQ presets tailored to specific applications. An LF cut is also available, allowing users to optimize audio output based on their specific needs.

A unique feature of the Greater Divine is its priority system, which allows one or more inputs to automatically duck another. This is particularly useful in scenarios where multiple audio sources need to be managed, such as in a theater where a show relay is sent to dressing rooms, but the stage manager's call or a building fire alarm needs to take precedence.

Glensound has designed the Greater Divine to be robust and reliable, ensuring it can withstand the demands of various professional environments. The design reflects Glensound's commitment to user convenience and versatility. The unit can be used as a free-standing speaker, but it also offers various mounting options for situations where space is a concern. An integral carrying handle adds to its portability, making it easy to transport and set up.

Although the Greater Divine can be powered over Ethernet, it also features a local DC input and an analog audio input, supplementing the 8 customizable Dante input channels - allowing for total flexibility of installation and uses.
A significant advancement in audio-over-IP technology, the new Glensound network monitor offers convenient connections and remote control, simplifying installation and setup processes. As an example, all functions or adjustments in the monitor can be locked for security, all LEDs can be set to dark mode for use in black out areas, and the front input select LEDs can even be set as a useful PPM meter. Each individual input LED can be set as a tricolor single LED meter for that input.

"Many people think that Glensound manufactures a plethora of handy hardware boxes. We do, but it is important to recognize that we also provide very complex systems, and we are very proud to deliver something that can solve a myriad of problems but remain easy to operate", says Marc Wilson, Glensound’s Managing Director. "With this launch, Glensound continues to provide products that not only meet current demands but also anticipate future needs. The Greater Divine is not just an upgrade; it is a comprehensive reimagining of what a networked audio monitor can be."

Whether used in live operations, commercial settings, educational institutions, or as a small PA system, the Greater Divine Intelligent Network Audio Monitor can meet and exceed the expectations of audio professionals around the world. Glensound will offer both black and white models for different applications.
