CEDIA Expo 2023 and Commercial Integrator Expo, September 6-9, Denver, CO

June 14 2023, 00:35
CEDIA Expo, the residential technology integration trade show takes place September 6-9, 2023, in Denver, CO. CEDIA Expo 2023 already has confirmed over 350 exhibiting brands and more than 150,000 net square feet of exhibits and sound rooms. The three-day event will unite over 18,000 industry professionals to connect with the leading manufacturers of residential audio, video, lighting, signal distribution, control systems, energy management, security and emerging market technologies.

CEDIA Expo, owned by Emerald Expositions, is the platform where residential technology integrators, designers and construction professions connect, learn, and engage. CEDIA Expo brings together thousands of home tech pros and hundreds of exhibitors to the leading event for smart home technology.

CEDIA Expo 2022 in Dallas, TX, marked a strong return to in-person events and provided an opportunity for the custom integration channel to reconnect and re-engage to drive businesses forward. Emerald confirmed 15,497 total registrants with a verified attendance of 11,946 industry professionals and 317 exhibitors. With over 143,000 net square-feet of exhibits, and sound rooms the Dallas show created strong anticipation in the sector for the return to Denver in 2023, which is pretty much a natural home for the trade show.

CEDIA Expo 2023 will feature various networking events and thought leadership sessions at the Innovation Hub and Smart Stage, and an engaging lineup of educational opportunities, offered in the Manufacturer Product Training and CEDIA Conference.

"We are energized for CEDIA Expo 2023," says Jason McGraw, CTS, group vice president for CEDIA Expo, Commercial Integrator Expo and KBIS, Emerald. "This September’s show returns to Denver and will feature an incredible array of leading technology brands unveiling the future of integrated residential systems technologies and solutions. Attendees can network with new and returning exhibitors showcasing their latest products hands-on at the in-person show."

Future-Focused Conference Program
CEDIA Expo will also feature an expanded educational programming curated by CEDIA, the global membership association for the home technology industry. CEDIA Expo Conference features over 90 sessions, half of which are brand new.

"The pace of change is accelerating," says Mandy Beckner, vice president of education and training for CEDIA. "This year’s conference program is designed to prepare business owners and technical professionals to navigate the shifting landscape. Our world-class instructors will tackle hot topics ranging from network security and artificial intelligence to business succession planning and dealing with a recession."

Business leaders will benefit from the expanded business and project management tracks, including sessions on:
- Compensation best practices and maximizing profitability from Navigate Consulting’s Brad Malone.
- Sustainable growth and exit strategy planning from Leslie Shiner, owner of The Shiner Group.
- Advanced project documentation from Michael Cogbill, principal of REV2 Consulting.

Integrators can also advance their skillsets with technical training, hands-on workshops and certification preparation courses. Highlights include:
- The return of CEDIA’s hands-on rack building workshop.
- An immersive audio system design workshop based on the newly defined CEDIA/CTA Recommended Practice-22, led by CEDIA Fellow Peter Aylett of Officina Acustica, Adam Pelz of Bespoke Cinemas and Integration and Ben Goff of Cinema Lusso.
- In-depth exploration of changes to the 2023 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) led by Michael Cogbill and CEDIA director of technical education Ken Erdmann.

The conference is also designed to help the integration community understand how emerging technologies will impact their work and create new opportunities. This year’s program features cutting-edge sessions on content technologies, network protocols, blockchain security and accessible and biophilic design, as well as sessions dedicated to the fast-growing lighting and resimercial markets.

"The CEDIA conference program sessions and the exhibition show floor complement each other to provide attendees with an unparalleled value of industry knowledge, discovering new trends and business opportunities," adds Jason McGraw. "More than ever, attendees need the latest education, information and new product knowledge to expand their professional development and business growth to be found at CEDIA Expo 2023."

Commercial Integrator Expo
CEDIA Expo 2023 is going to be expanded in scope and reach with the addition of the first Commercial Integrator Expo. Both events are promoted by Emerald Expositions, a trade show organizer that acquired CEDIA Expo from the CEDIA association. Since the announcement, multiple partnerships for Commercial Integrator Expo have been confirmed.

The co-location of CEDIA Expo 2023 and Commercial Integrator Expo 2023 will offer educational opportunities, networking and new product exploration. Attendees registering for CEDIA Expo 2023 will have access to the Commercial Integrator Expo 2023 exhibits.

"We believe many attendees will find immense value in the co-location of CEDIA Expo and Commercial Integrator Expo. The growth in systems integrators, designers, distributors, architects, home builders and contractors expanding their businesses with commercial and resimercial projects has created a unique opportunity to deliver professional development and business networking to accelerate business growth," McGraw added.

Since this announcement, Emerald has also confirmed a series of partnerships for the event, including with THE rAVe Agency, the organization that normally produces videos of exhibitors saying what they are doing at the show. Both CEDIA Expo and Commercial Integrator Expo will be "powered by THE rAVe Agency," which means that all exhibitors need to be ready to talk to the camera and appear on Youtube. Of note, "Commercial Integrator" is also the name of a magazine and website owned and published by Emerald, the promoter of the shows. This is considered a big red line for industry associations. But Emeral is a for-profit pirvate company.

An already confirmed expansion of the Commercial Integrator Expo is a strategic partnership with IMCCA announce a strategic partnership with the Interactive Multimedia & Collaborative Communications Alliance (IMCCA) as a supporting organization for the show. IMCCA will provide unified communications and hybrid office content programming at Commercial Integrator Expo 2023, including sessions on work from home (WFH) and hybrid office technology on the Smart Stage and Innovation Hub stage at CEDIA Expo. IMCCA will also organize a comprehensive track of educational sessions on unified communications and collaboration technologies (UC), applications, trends and case studies within the all-new Commercial Integrator Expo conference program.

"It is clear that UC and Hybrid Working will be a critical part of being future ready," said Carol Zelkin, Executive Director of the IMCCA. "We are excited to work with Commercial Integrator Expo and CEDIA Expo to bring detailed and agnostic education from industry experts and end-users to the events’ attendees."

Also on a key application segment that until remained the focus of other dedicated trade shows, Commercial Integrator Expo announced a partnership with Digital Signage Federation (DSF), a not-for-profit organization. Commercial Integrator Expo 2023 will feature educational opportunities, market insights, subject matter experts and networking around digital signage as part of the joint partnership.

"The DSF is a by members for members organization and our goal is to power up this industry by meeting our members where they are," said Len Dudis, chairman of the Digital Signage Federation. "Collaborating with Commercial Integrator Expo will allow the DSF to bring our industry leading education and thought leadership to those who might be new to the digital signage industry but are looking to learn more about our growing industry."

Finally, Emerald also confirmed that the new Commercial Integrator Expo 2023 event will be supported by the Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance (HETMA), an advocacy organization focused on the higher education AV industry. Audiovisual technology in the higher education vertical accounts for over $27B in annual spend, and HETMA’s mission is to raise awareness of audiovisual technology issues unique to the higher education community by communicating with manufacturers, vendors and higher education administrators on the needs and challenges that technology managers face.

"The AV industry has made a huge shift over the past few years," said Joe Way, PhD, CTS, co-founder and chair of HETMA. "Technology managers in higher education now serve a key role in the industry’s overall success (...) We value relationship building, knowing that we as a vertical are successful only when we as an industry are successful. Therefore, this partnership with Commercial Integrator Expo is a natural fit; it’s a natural win-win. We look forward to bringing an educational program that enriches our community and the general AV community while also showing off our many initiatives like a HETMA Approved classroom."

Registration for the show is now available. CEDIA members will receive free access to the show floor. With the All-Access CEDIA Training Pass, CEDIA members can save $500 on CEDIA Education offerings. Additional information for the CEDIA Conference will be shared over the coming weeks. In the meantime, individuals interested in attending CEDIA Expo from September 6–9, 2023, in Denver, CO, can register online.
