Trade shows have resumed but its effect is not yet completely reflected in this year's products and awards - clearly benefiting those companies who have learned to work closer with the 60 leading specialist magazines and websites in 28 countries. EISA (Expert Imaging & Sound Association) member publications have recognized and awarded a growing number of products as the best in their categories, emphasizing performance and innovation in Consumer Electronics.
The EISA Awards are debated and voted upon by groups of specialist judging panels covering the full spectrum of consumer electronics products, including Hi-Fi, Home Theatre Audio and Video, In-Car Electronics, Photography and Mobile Devices. Key to the success and relevance of the annual EISA Awards lies in the evolution of its categories, always reflecting the changing trends and technologies of the consumer electronics world. Over the last six years, physical media (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray) players have disappeared, dedicated portable music players have now faded away, and soundbars are now a dominant category in home theater. Unexpectedly, EISA has not recognized the fastest growing segment of in-earphones and true wireless earbuds, which are also the category with the largest number of product launches, by far.
The EISA awards cover different product segments, including Photography, Display and Video, but audioXpress has also made a tradition to highlight the products in the EISA audio categories - Hi-Fi, Home Theatre Audio, In-Car and Mobile Devices categories.
In general, the awards reveal some predictable winners with products and brands that clearly stood-out in the past 12 months and, as usual given the fact that these awards originated from Europe and still remain predominantly European, many of the winers are from companies almost unknown elsewhere. That makes this list extremely interesting for consumers in the US and other parts of the world to discover. And its great to see some significant wins from companies based in North America.
Major winners for this year include PerListen, which is recognized for its outstanding home theater speaker series but also its D215 home theater active subwoofer, completely replacing many of the established players in this category. A deserving recognition for PerListen, showing that the company's efforts during the difficult years of the pandemic and its strong focus on quality and innovation were not lost.
Remarkable also is another win for Dutch company System Audio with its Legend 7.2 Silverback, proving that audio quality and good design pays-off big time! And again, European manufacturers are embracing the quality and convenience of WiSA's wireless audio technology and reaping the rewards. On the amplification side, it is significant to see again great Japanese brands standing out, including Rotel, which is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. And of course, the soundbar category shows the might of the great Chinese companies, with TCL standing out with an understated design which surprises positively for its Dolby Atmos implementation, integrated acoustic calibration and streaming technology.
