EarFun Claims World's 1st Bluetooth LE-Audio ANC True Wireless Earbuds

February 27 2023, 00:45
Shenzhen, China-based EarFun has launched the new Air Pro 3 true wireless earbuds that are said to be LE Audio-ready. audioXpress has waited until the start of MWC 2023 in Barcelona to see if anyone would dispute or make a similar claim. Since no one did, we can reliably publish the story now. Earfun is now selling the World's 1st LE-audio ANC true wireless earbuds, the brand's new TWS earbud flagship, which uses the Qualcomm QCC 3071 chip, and also supports Bluetooth 5.3, and aptX Adaptive.

Although it comes from a fairly recent brand "established in California in 2018," EarFun is run by an experienced team that knows its supply chain and how to stand out in this competitive space. Since its early start with an Indiegogo campaign with the EarFun Free, quickly followed by the EarFun Air, and the EarFun Free Pro (the lightest ANC wireless earbuds), the company never stopped even during the pandemic.

The new EarFun Air Pro 3 true wireless earbuds look exactly like all the many MeToo TWS clones that are sold online, and even cost just $79.99 in the company's website, where there are already reviews of happy users. The Air Pro 3 doesn't stand out in terms of design, but these are currently the TWS earbuds available in the US market to tick more boxes than everyone else's. These include the latest TWS announcements from the largest Chinese manufacturers who have not yet advertised Bluetooth LE Audio-ready products because they have not yet started shipping LE-Audio-ready smartphones - although that's one of the bullet points for the many new products at the Barcelona MWC show.

The new EarFun earbuds are advertised as the world's "first ANC wireless earbuds to debut highly-efficient LE-Audio Bluetooth architecture," stating that the Air Pro 3's "combination of features, design, and specs puts premium audio and the latest advances in Bluetooth technology into the hands of everyday people who want to focus on their work and elevate their daily soundtrack." If no one says otherwise, it must be true.

"Adopting next-generation Bluetooth technology, the Air Pro 3 features LE Audio with the new audio codec LC3. This delivers an impressively-low power consumption, but with a significant improvement in sound quality over the common SBC codec during low-battery states," EarFun details. Although we had no way to test this ourselves, they say that "The sound overall is simply superior. Paired with the QuietSmart 2.0 Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation system, the Air Pro 3 silences the outside world up to 43dB. In addition, the sound of wind shear is subdued with an Anti-Wind Noise algorithm that works every millisecond."

And although they will not have yet LC3 sources to try, music enthusiasts will benefit at least from the supported aptX Adaptive codecs, including the low latency mode, while enhancing the quality of streamed audio over Bluetooth between compatible devices. And Earfun seems to be a company that knows what they are talking about because they are not shy of detailing the use of large (for TWS) 11mm Wool Composite Dynamic Drivers and refined sound tuning with attention to "clarity, between the spacious bass and stellar treble response."

The Air Pro 3 also comes with the fully customizable EarFun Audio app, registered by EarFun Technology HK, which gives users  the ability to personalize the sound, including emphasizing voices when streaming. The Air Pro 3 earbuds also support multipoint Bluetooth connectivity - now mandatory. And again thanks to the Qualcomm SoC, the earbuds include cVc 8.0 Echo Canceling and Noise Suppression (ECNS), allowing for quality calls with less noise and super precise voice isolation from the 6-microphone array.

These IPX5 earbuds also support configurable touch controls and promise substantial battery life. "Expect 9 hours on a single charge, more than enough for a full day. Using the USB-C charging case can give you a generous 36 hours more with ANC, and a whopping 45 hours when ANC is off. If you're in a hurry, you have the option of gaining a solid 2 hours of playtime on a quick 10-minute charge. Thankfully, the case is wireless charging compatible in case you left your USB-C cable at home," the company explains.

Otherwise, the Air Pro 3 earbuds don't look like cheap plastic things with its "elegant metallic texture body, with clean lines and subtle accents." For $79.99, we'll order the EarFun Air Pro 3 earbuds so we can try LC3 at home as soon as possible.
