On the heels of the company's recent ROG (Republic of Gamers) Phone 3 collaboration, Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac and ASUS, a global manufacturer of smartphones, computers and electronics, announced that all ROG Phone 3-compatible gaming headsets have now been upgraded with Dirac’s headphone optimization solution through a recent “over-the-air” software update.
For those who don't know, the ROG Phone 3 is ASUS most powerful Android-based gaming phone, using the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus platform, targeting "hardcore mobile gamers". The phone features an amazing new 144 Hz / 1 ms display alongside a monster 6000 mAh battery, a unique side-charging design, dual front-facing speakers, and a full range of modular accessories.
The ASUS ROG Phone 3 was first unveiled in July 2020 and marked the first collaboration between the two companies – in which Dirac’s patented immersive audio solution was leveraged to upgrade the performance of the device’s built-in speakers.
According to Mats Oberg, Dirac’s Chief Sales Officer, this latest chapter in the companies’ relationship is both a testament to the success of their first collaboration and the importance of audio to the overall gaming experience.
"The core Dirac tech implemented within these ROG headsets is the result of years of work in the hi-fi and home theater markets – where audio performance is of paramount importance," says Oberg. "We’re now taking these technologies and acoustic principals and applying them to the gaming headset market, where sound can be the difference between an ordinary and extraordinary gaming experience. ASUS understands this, and prioritizes product performance above all else, which is why they’re such a terrific collaborator in the gaming space!"
Dirac’s headphone optimization solution, with its patented impulse and magnitude response correction, digitally upgrades headset sound quality to deliver natural, balanced sound with true-to-source sound localization that is ideal for both gaming and music listening.
More specifically, Dirac’s headphone solution creates a more balanced, clear sound, so dialogue remains crisp and voices intelligible – which is key for multiplayer collaborative gameplay. Furthermore, the solution helps headphones to reproduce rich acoustical detail, so even the softest, subtlest audio cues – like passing footsteps or discreet whispers – can be heard during gameplay. Deep, clean bass allows gamers to feel the excitement and intensity, while improved separation helps gamers to better recognize where sounds come from.
"As the gaming industry becomes more competitive, audio quality is proving to be a key component consumers consider when making purchases," says Bryan Chang, General Manager, smartphone business unit at ASUS. "Audio plays an enormous role in the user experience, whether it’s creating a sense of immersion and realism or contributing to better in-game performance. Dirac has become an essential partner in empowering us to create a headset sound experience that will undoubtedly impress the ROG gaming community."
The Dirac-optimized ROG Phone 3 series of gaming headsets includes: ROG Cetra, ROG Cetra Core, ROG Cetra RGB, ROG Delta, ROG Delta Core, ROG Delta White Edition, ROG Strix Go 2.4, ROG Strix Fusion 300, ROG Strix Fusion 300 PNK LTD, ROG Theta Electret, and ROG Theta 7.1.
