Brüel & Kjær Announces Type 4966 Measurement Microphone Family

Designed for high-precision, free-field measurements and ideal where a microphone with high sensitivity is required, the new Brüel & Kjær Type 4966 family of measurement microphones is the latest expansion of the Danish company's toolset at the disposal of engineers and acousticians. With four different products adequate for accurate measurements and everyday tasks, the Type 4966 family offers a robust, and reliable range of free-field microphones for high-precision acoustic measurements.
 
The new Bruel & Kjær Type 4966 family includes four carefully selected types suitable for all-round acoustic measurements in temperatures up to 125°C, with typical applications including interior and exterior vehicle acoustic measurements and sound power. The Type 4966 family is also well suited when low-frequency disturbance, such as body boom or road noise, needs to be eliminated and for measurements in confined spaces or when building an array with a low noise floor, as well as for high sound pressure level (SPL) measurements, or if the integrity of the microphone measurement channel needs to be checked.

Just like every Bruel & Kjær microphone, the entire production process of the Type 4966 family is done controlled by tight tolerances, making certain that each microphone meets the highest standards. Hand assembly takes place in an ISO Class 5 clean room, ensuring that the microphones maintain their low noise floor and high stability even in environments that combine high humidity and high temperature.
 
Particularly interesting for audioXpress readers in electroacoustic and noise measurements, is the Type 4966-H-041, an 1/2-inch prepolarized free-field microphone, with a Type 1706 (CCLD) high-temperature preamplifier, and BNC connector, offering a frequency response from 5 Hz to 20 kHz This microphone is perfect for free-field measurements where a microphone with high sensitivity, large dynamic range and wide temperature range is required. The Type 4966-H-041 operates at temperatures up to 125°C (257°F) and is suitable for measurements in high-temperatures – such as close to a car engine. 

The Bruel Type 4966-H-041 microphone is also suitable for measuring sound power of, for example, home appliances garden tools, machinery, medical equipment, etc, fulfilling the requirements of the sound power standard IEC 61094-4 WS2F. Because it has a wide dynamic range, a wide frequency range and a wide operating temperature range, it can also be used for measuring exterior noise, and general purpose measurements.
