Audiomovers Web Transmitter Allows Sharing Audio in Real Time From a Web Browser

March 20 2023, 00:25
British software company Audiomovers has introduced Web Transmitter, a software extension to the company's ListenTo software suite, which allows users to stream, listen to and record high-resolution PCM multichannel audio remotely and in real time. Web Transmitter is a simplified, web-based version of the ListenTo app, which launches straight from a browser.

Founded in 2017 by Igor Maxymenko (Waves, Blue Microphones) and Yuriy Shevyrov (Universal Audio, Waves, Avid, Logitech) and acquired by Abbey Road Studios in 2021, Audiomovers is a software house that offers a set of audio tools designed for real-time collaboration with anyone in the world, and easy audio management within a production system. Audiomovers has quickly gained recognition for remote collaboration for studios to connect with producers, mixers, and songwriters. The company is also know for the Omnibus virtual patch bay software for the Mac, which allows to send and receive multichannel audio between apps running in the same computer.

Now, the company expanded its ListenTo collaboration software with Web Transmitter, allowing subscribers to share lossless audio in real time directly from a web browser with anyone around the world. Web Transmitter can deliver stereo or mono PCM uncompressed audio at resolutions up to 32-bit/96kHz, with additional support for high quality lossless or reduced data rate streaming audio at 128-256 kbps with the OPUS codec, or 96-320kbps with AAC.

Any audio input or outputs on a computer, such as built-in microphones or USB audio interfaces, can be routed to feed audio to Web Transmitter, or the user can drag and drop – and loop – any audio file supported by the web browser (Firefox recommended). Users can directly feed directly the files they have at hand in WAV, FLAC, ogg, CAF, mp4, ADTS and WebM for instant playback with no need for access to a DAW. Routing from a DAW or routing multiple audio sources at once is possible using Audiomovers’ audio patchbay software for Mac, Omnibus. The streaming latency can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1 second in 0.1 second steps to prevent dropouts.

With Web Transmitter, users can invite collaborators directly from the Transmitter without the need to copy and paste the sharing link – collaborators can be emailed directly from Web Transmitter. Anyone with the link can listen in natively via a web browser, from the ListenTo Receiver DAW plugin, or from Audiomovers ListenTo Player mobile apps for iOS and Android, without need to pay or login. Session and content security is enhanced by the ability to generate random session URLs and password protect a session.

"Web Transmitter adds capabilities that existing web audio sharing methodologies lack," says Igor Maxymenko, Audiomovers Head of Audio Products. "Its ability to stream lossless audio that is stable and with minimal latency is unique and unmatched."

Unlike other options, Web Transmitter is not limited to Google's Chrome browser but also works in Firefox on desktop with full functionality. Web Transmitter is directly launchable from the browser at transmitter.audiomovers.com. A subscription to ListenTo is required to use Web Transmitter to share audio. All ListenTo subscribers also have access to the ability to share up to 16 channels of multichannel audio in real time at data rates up to 32-bit/96kHz PCM. ListenTo also supports the real time streaming of immersive audio, up to 7.1.4 and offers user-defined latency as low as 0.1s.

The ListenTo suite of products includes a set of DAW plugins (VST, VST3, AAX, AU), a desktop application for Mac or PC, a phone/tablet app (purely for receiving audio) for Android and iOS, and now Web Transmitter for browsers. Free trials are available.
