April 7 2025, 02:10
Arnold Magnetic Technologies, a leading global manufacturer of high-performance magnets, announced that industry veteran Matthew Blake has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer effective March 31, 2025. Arnold Magnetic, headquartered in Rochester, NY, celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2025. As a subsidiary of Compass Diversified Holdings, Arnold recently opened a state-of-the-art facility in Woodstock, IL, and launched a new production site in Thailand, underscoring the company’s commitment to the industry, its employees, and the environment.

Matthew Blake succeeds Dan Miller, who held the CEO position for the past nine years. During his tenure, Dan Miller made substantial contributions to Arnold’s growth and success. Under Miller’s leadership, the company strengthened its position as a leading solutions provider, successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, and oversaw a recent facility relocation. Miller’s strategic vision was instrumental in spearheading the launch of the world’s strongest Samarium Cobalt magnet grade, RECOMA 35E, and instilling a culture that fosters teamwork, communication, and operational excellence. To ensure a smooth transition, Dan Miller will continue to serve in an advisory role until April 30, 2025.

Matthew Blake brings his extensive global operations experience across various industrial end-markets to his new role as CEO. His career includes leadership positions at DwyerOmega, Alpha Packaging, Cleaver-Brooks, and ESAB Welding & Cutting Products. Blake holds a Master of Science in Engineering and Global Operations Management from Clarkson University, as well as an MBA from Webster University.

“I’m thrilled for the privilege to lead the exceptional team at Arnold Magnetic Technologies as CEO,” Blake states. “The opportunity to build on our rapid growth while partnering with customers to scale technology solutions that will reshape industries is one I simply could not refuse. I was further impressed by the Company’s remarkable 130-year history of innovating, engineering, and manufacturing world-class products with the highest standards for quality, reliability, and performance.”

Arnold Magnetic Technologies is a recognized supplier of titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, and beryllium materials used in the consumer electronics industry and specifically in the manufacturing of high-end speaker domes, through its Precision Thin Metals division. The company manufactures ultra-thin gauge strips and foils for speaker domes where a clean and defect-free surface finish is needed for superior operation of the speaker. Its NADCAP-certified heat treatment process allows it to manufacture foils with repeatable mechanical properties which are required to provide consistent high-quality sound.

Arnold Magnetic Technologies is a leading manufacturer of high-performance magnets used in the audio industry. Arnold traces its roots to the late 19th century, when the company’s founder, Bion J. Arnold, a close associate of Thomas Edison and Charles Steinmetz, patented the first magnetic clutch in 1898. This invention revolutionized electric power generation and laid the foundation for decades of advancements. In the 1940s, Arnold contributed to World War II efforts by producing Alnico magnets for Sherman tanks and proximity fuses for motor and anti-aircraft shells.

The post-war years saw further innovation, including the introduction of ceramic magnets, samarium cobalt magnets, precision thin metals, electromagnetics, and bonded magnets used in aerospace, automotive, and medical applications. In January 2025, the company opened its 130,000-square-foot facility in Woodstock, the new home for Arnold’s Alnico and Precision Thin Metals divisions.

With a flagship R&D center in Middleton, WI, and additional locations in Sheffield, UK, and Switzerland, Arnold remains at the forefront of innovation in magnetic materials and systems. As a key supplier of materials for electric vehicles, aerospace, and renewable energy systems, the company has plans to further invest in its employees, facilities, and cutting-edge technologies.
