Responding to increased demand, Amphion Loudspeakers has announced the opening of their new headquarters in Kuopio, Finland. The 19,000 square foot facility increases manufacturing and stock space, includes a purpose-designed R&D rooms, and demo areas for the brand’s home and studio lines of monitoring. This is a major upgrade from Amphion’s previous offices and represents a sizable investment in the brand’s future.
Initially founded in 1998 as a home loudspeaker manufacturer before launching their studio monitor line in 2014, Amphion evolved to become a recognized name by both pro audio professionals and music lovers worldwide. Well-known users include Grammy-winning producers such as Finneas O’Connell, Jacquire King, and Mike Dean, and mix engineers Mitch McCarthy, Josh Gudwin and Damien Lewis.
As Amphion founder and CEO, Anssi Hyvönen, shared with audioXpress at the 2022 NAMM Show, the demand for both studio monitoring systems and home audio systems increased during the pandemic, and the company was able to keep up with demand thanks to the fact that it is located in a relatively remote region in Finland. The fact that many studios embraced multichannel production in order to support immersive audio formats, has also increased the demand for studio monitors. These increases in business led Amphion's leadership to reimagine its facilities to better represent the scope and capabilities of its product lines, and by extension the needs of its growing customer base.
"The move to a new facility gives Amphion a solid foundation for the future," says Anssi Hyvönen. "We took this major step with confidence – growth during the past years shows that our innovative ideas have become accepted and our products are in daily use by world’s leading sound engineers and artists. It feels great to inform our customers that delivery for standard products will be immediate, as doubling of space has already allowed us to increase our raw material and ready-made stocks."
Amphion Loudspeakers are characterized by its simple design approach, precise driver integration and phase coherency using controlled dispersion to achieve more stable results in a variety of room acoustics. Amphion speakers remain passive systems, although the company normally sells its studio monitors as a complete system, with carefully selected amplifier modules that are integrated by the company in custom chassis. The rapidly growing immersive audio market and proliferation of Dolby Atmos audio productions benefited the Finnish loudspeaker manufacturer, which launched an 8-channel amplifier, designed specifically for the needs of multichannel studio monitoring. This makes an immersive installation considerably more affordable. All its products are handmade in Finland (the Amphion amplifiers are also assembled in Finland).
