Adobe Introduces Audition Updates with New Loudness Meter and Silence Remover Tools

Adobe released new features and performance updates across its Creative Cloud video and audio tools, where the company’s popular Audition audio editing software is included. The May 2021 release now runs natively on Apple M1 systems and includes new tools such as a Loudness Meter with presets for Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Netflix, and other services, and Strip Silence, allowing to identify and remove silent or inactive regions in recorded clips.

Adobe continues to focus on the needs of modern video creators, providing improved performance for recording and mixing high-quality audio content such as podcasts, broadcast, sound design, audio restoration, and more. The latest releases of Adobe Audition and Premiere Pro offer performance improvements, new features, and workflow refinements that make video and audio production faster and more efficient.

The highlight for the May 2021 release of Adobe Audition is the native support on Apple M1 devices (Mac and iPad), creating a very powerful and fast audio solution that completely obliterates everything in existence so far - and everyone knows how heavy slow Adobe software tends to be. Running Audition natively on Apple M1 systems means providing improved performance on all operations, including AI-based tools, which are one of the main reasons to stick with the software for many users - given the productivity gains, particularly when combined with video editing in Premiere Pro or other video editing software.

Notable gains in M1 platforms include faster mixdowns, audio effects rendering, and near-real time updates in the Spectral Display Editor. Audio Effects are now faster on other platforms too, including Audition on Intel macOS (Intel) and Windows. The only reason for keeping some studios waiting to upgrade to Apple M1 platforms is the fact that, for now, Audition on M1 does not yer support EUCON control surfaces or CEP extension panels.

The new Loudness Meter provides industry standard ITU-based loudness monitoring for broadcast, podcast, and streaming media content. The new Loudness Meter, which will replace the previous Loudness Radar, transparently measures program loudness for full mixes, single tracks, or buses and submixes. Most importantly, the meter supports common regional loudness requirements, like EBU for Europe or ATSC for the Americas, while new Audition presets ensure compatibility with popular online destinations, such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Netflix, and YouTube.

The addition of Strip Silence is a much-requested new feature which allows users to identify and remove silent or inactive regions in recorded clips, without losing synchronization in multitrack audio. Users can explore this feature for cleaning up voice recording, interviews, and preparing multi-track edits, such as podcasts or audio documentary content. Strip Silence parameters can be adjusted for unique scenarios, such as noisy backgrounds or different volume levels between participants, to easily identify and remove regions in the track that have no content, saving editors time.
