Berlin-based software house zplane.development released FENNEK - a new peak and loudness metering solution designed to help keep track of audio levels and deliver mixes that comply with broadcast and streaming standards. With a highly customizable interface and a loudness history view, FENNEK is a fresh new take at audio metering software, allowing visual supervision of signals and processes, combined with intelligent adjustment of peaks and loudness matching any intended use.
zplane is a research-focused company that provides state-of-the-art music processing/analysis technology and know-how to the music industry. zplane was founded in January 2000 in Berlin, Germany, by Tim Flohrer, Alexander Lerch and Martin Schwerdtfeger, all with backgrounds in sound engineering, classical musical education, and computer music.
Focusing on intelligent signal processing solutions like artifact-free time stretching and pitch shifting and on music analysis technology, zplane makes all its technologies available for licensing to the music industry with ready-to-use SDKs, and offers hard- and software design and development services on various native and DSP platforms and operating systems. The company's staff is also involved in research and lecturing at the Technical University Berlin and the University of Arts Berlin.
With this new product, plane focused on professional-grade audio metering software. FENNEK features a modern, scalable and flexible interface that users can customize to see exactly what they need to see. As a starting point, the application offers a large selection of standards and requirements for the world’s leading broadcasters and streaming services. The user picks his destination and FENNEK will check that the peaks and loudness in the current project will match the intended use.
A comprehensive history view tracks levels and loudness over time, giving users a quick overview of their projects and an easy way to track down problems. Signal formats include stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and 7.1.2 surround sound. As a standalone application, FENNEK offers a useful option for calibrating equipment or to use a computer as a dedicated loudness metering station. It supports both Windows and macOS 10.15 and 11.5, running natively on both Intel and M1/ARM computers.
“Building on our previous success with the PPMulator range of metering products, we’re happy to release FENNEK - a truly modern addition to the loudness metering field,” says Chad Carrier, Product Manager at zplane development. “Are you preparing material for uploading to YouTube? Just select the YouTube preset and start measuring. With FENNEK, we have done all the tedious and boring research into audio standards for all the world’s broadcasters and streaming services and created a large bank of presets that will make audio metering a much easier task.”
FENNEK is available as a VST, VST3, AU, or AAX plugin, as well as a standalone program. The company offers a demo download.
