RAVENNA Gears Up for Busy 139th AES Convention in New York

October 15 2015, 03:00
Following a highly successful IBC show in Amsterdam which saw the announcement of two new partners and the launch of a raft of new RAVENNA-enabled product, RAVENNA is preparing for an equally busy AES show in New York at the end of the month with a particularly packed seminar program.

Firstly, Andreas Hildebrand of ALC NetworX, developers of the RAVENNA audio networking technology platform, will be chairing the workshop, Networked Audio: N8 - How to get AES67 into your systems/products (http://www.aes.org/events/139/networkaudio/?ID=4600)
Hildebrand will also be participating as a panelist in three other networked audio seminars:
·        Network Performance Requirements for Audio Applications chaired by Jim Meyer of Clair Global (http://www.aes.org/events/139/networkaudio/?ID=4597)
·        How will AES67 affect the industry? chaired by Rich Zwiebel of QSC (http://www.aes.org/events/139/networkaudio/?ID=4601)
·        AES67 Interoperability Testing chaired by Kevin Gross of AVA Networks (http://www.aes.org/events/139/networkaudio/?ID=4601)

RAVENNA will also be participating in the AES67 plug-demo on the Media Networking Alliance (MNA) booth where interoperability amongst AES67-enabled devices including RAVENNA-enabled equipment from Lawo, Genelec, Meinberg, DirectOut, Merging, Archwave, Digigram and Telos/Axia as well as devices from Yamaha, Focusrite and QSC will be demonstrated.

Finally, following on directly from the 139th AES Convention in New York, another AES67 plug-fest is scheduled in Washington D.C. on November 2nd which will see participation from RAVENNA partners ALC NetworX, Lawo, Archwave, Merging, Digigram and many other companies who will be testing their latest AES67 implementations.

New RAVENNA partners welcome Audinate to the AES67 standard
With the announcement that Audinate has now delivered their AES67-enabled firmware to their OEM partners in order to offer AES67 compatibility with their DANTE protocol, the RAVENNA community welcomes them to the world of interoperability they created five years ago.

Andreas Hildebrand from ALC NetworX, developers of RAVENNA, states, “This is great news for users, who can now interconnect audio devices using RAVENNA, Q-Lan, Livewire and finally Dante. AES67 cannot be used on its own, it simply allows different audio protocols to talk to each other, so manufacturers who want to enjoy the interoperability of AES67 need to choose a protocol that is AES67-compliant to fit into their products.”

“We always intended that many different protocols should provide AES67 compatibility in order to offer the system designer and/or end-user as wide a choice as possible,” continues Hildebrand. “Audinate offers their paid-for solution and we offer ours freely, but users may now benefit from using both protocols - and indeed all other AES67-compatible protocols - in the same installation.”

RAVENNA is an open technology standard without a proprietary licensing policy. RAVENNA is fully compatible with the AES67-2013 standard on High-performance Streaming Audio-over-IP Interoperability. Having been AES67-compatible from the moment the standard was launched, RAVENNA has the most experience in working with AES67 having implemented it in many complex and demanding broadcast set ups.

RAVENNA is a technology for real-time distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments. Utilizing standardized network protocols and technologies, RAVENNA can operate on existing network infrastructures. RAVENNA is designed to meet the strict requirements of the pro audio market featuring low latency, full signal transparency and high reliability.

While primarily targeting the professional broadcast market, RAVENNA is also suitable for deployment in other pro audio market segments like live sound, install market and recording. Possible fields of application include (but are not limited to) in-house signal distribution in broadcasting houses, theaters, concert halls and other fixed installations, flexible setups at venues and live events, OB van support, inter-facility links across WAN connections and in production & recording applications.

About ALC NetworX GmbH
ALC NetworX is an R&D company in Munich, Germany. A team of experts with excellent reputation from the pro audio industry and in-depth knowledge in networking technologies has developed the RAVENNA technology platform. While ALC NetworX will continue to keep the lead role in the RAVENNA technology development, product implementations will be executed by individual partner companies.
