All Set for the 2015 High End Show in Munich

May 4 2015, 03:00
The largest European exhibition for high-quality consumer electronics takes place at the MOC Munich, Germany, from May 14-17, 2015. With an expanded area of four halls and more than 500 exhibitors already confirmed, the High End Society confirmed an impressive array of performances, talks, presentations and industry events.

The HIGH END 2015 in Munich will offers its visitors the broadest selection of products from the field of high-quality entertainment electronics. The Munich High End show is not only a trade fair (Thursday, May 14, the show will be open exclusively for trade); it is also an experience open to the public during three days. The 2015 edition will be held in four exhibition halls, with two bright atria with open market places, seats, catering services and relaxation zones.

Different High Resolution Audio Flavors
A great highlight this year will be the presentation of Meridian’s newly developed Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) audio technology. At the High End 2015, the High End Society in collaboration with British company Meridian will be holding a special presentation of the new MQA technology on Wednesday, May 13 (Atrium 3.1, room C112).

The technology has been “on the market” since the start of the year and is spreading rapidly. Companies like TIDAL, Imagination, 7digital or Onkyo have already adapted MQA for their own purposes, and a range of “record companies” have made their own positive statements about their expectations for this new technology. The High End Munich show will be one of the first opportunities for a public demonstration, revealing more details on the new MQA “container format” and how the technology will work with different hardware.

In another interesting presentation, Andreas Koch, one of the inventors of the DSD high-definition digital audio format and owner of Playback Designs, in association with Joachim Kiesler from Saxony, professional recording engineer and mastermind of Musikelectronic Geithain, and Primephonic, a new Dutch download portal, will demonstrate the musical potential of the DSD format, but also the current state of the art in DSD downloading, not just in stereo, but also in multi-channel audio.

There will be presentations from leading European audio engineers like Erdo Groot (director, producer and sound engineer of Polyhymnia B.V.), Jared Sacks (director, producer and sound engineer of Channel Classics B.V.) and Jan-Eric Persson (sound engineer and founder of Opus3 Records). Engineers and producers will discuss their recordings and experience with DSD mastering.

Talks And Presentations
Visitors to the High End Show 2015 can look forward to seeing major brand names, exciting designs and new products, together with a wide variety of interesting talks, presentations, demonstrations and workshops with high-profile speakers.

Among many events already scheduled, German broadcaster’s Bayerischer Rundfunk, Westdeutscher Rundfunk and the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT), the joint research centre of ARD/ZDF, ORF and SRG, will present state-of-the-art digital radio and audio technology on conference room K2A (opposite Hall 1). 90 years after it was introduced, radio broadcasting uses the full range of digital possibilities. With digital production and broadcasting technology, optimum studio quality can now be delivered directly to living rooms, cars and mobile devices

The presentation will show a variety of radio content and technology in an acoustically optimized demonstration room. Sound engineers from BR and WDR will be presenting highlights from the latest music productions and radio plays in studio quality, in 5.1 Surround Sound or binaurally on headphones.
DAB+, DVB-C and internet digital broadcasting will all be available for direct comparison.

It will be also possible to compare the quality of audio codecs and data rates in a listening booth test. Other topics in the presentations include the importance of the EBU R128 loudness regulation and the work, this involves when remastering archive material. Exhibits on HTML5 Audio and Binaural Room Synthesis will give an insight into the latest research and an outlook on forthcoming developments.

At the Bayerischer Rundfunk stand in Hall 2 R06 there will be a car demonstration of DAB+ digital radio and the Symphoria audio system developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen.

Among the many workshops, on Saturday, 16 May, there will be a presentation by Matthias Böde from Stereo’s editorial team on the magazine´s new listening test CD, presented in cooperation with MBL (Atrium 4, room D106); a demonstration on “The importance of USB cables” with a direct comparison of USB connections in all price categories by Nagra (Atrium 4, room E217), a presentation by Jazz artist Lyn Stanley, comparing a live performance with the recorded result, by Purist Audio Design (Atrium 4 , room F226); a presentation on direct comparison of high definition audio technology by Burmester (Atrium 3, room D106).
