According to the company, this compact system will be appreciated by those audio and music enthusiasts looking for a direct translation of live performances. As Haniwa explains, the system being demonstrated at the New York Audio Show uses two single, virtual point source, full range drivers. The subwoofers are frequency and time aligned with the main speakers to provide flat frequency and phase response from 20Hz to 20kHz.
The result is a compact, apartment friendly, music reproduction system that will deliver fidelity and realism. The groundbreaking system will be on display in room 319 at the Martinique in Midtown Manhattan.
Haniwa Audio is a division of Kubotek Corporation which is headquartered in Osaka, Japan. The company has been developing stereo music reproduction systems for over 30 years and believes the perfect audio system must exactly and faithfully reproduce music as it sounds at the source. Obsessing over a direct comparison of the waveform signal, and step and impulse response, at the source and as played back, Haniwa targets an exact reproduction of live music by controlling both frequency and phase (timing) using digital technology.
The company's single driver speakers have been perfected over a period of decades, and visitors to the New York Audio Show shouldn't discard the system base on its appearance and small size. The technology was developed by Dr. Tetsuo Kubo, making the Haniwa very, very different from other systems. Combining complete control over timing, phase and frequency, the Haniwa system is able to create a precise 3D soundstage in a small listening room, thanks also to its proprietary Digital Signal Processor. This DSP technology controls and adjusts the audio signal in real time at a very high sampling rate and resolution.
Elegant in its simplicity, the Haniwa speakers feature a custom designed solid magnesium alloy single speaker driver, in a sealed, resonant free, "bell cabinet". The driver is mounted deep in the center of that specially designed shape to help provide a clear and precise sound focal point. When played with the matching system amplifier, it delivers a virtual “point source” of sound. Over time, the Haniwa speakers have been perfected to larger sizes, improving its ability to fill larger rooms, but these are essentially designed for home use.
Haniwa also designs and manufactures high-end turntables, cartridges and phono stages. When visiting the company's demo room, most visitors focus their attention on that phono source and the vast collection of precious vinyl presented, and fail to appreciate the unique properties of the speaker system. Hopefully the dual subwoofer extension will change that.
