The 2016 Audio Engineering Society (AES) International Conference on Headphone Technology took place August 24-26, 2016, in Aalborg, Denmark, at the Nordkraft building - an old power station converted into a mix of community and events center near the city's new music center, Musikkens Hus. Steven Lamar Funds ROAM Ropes Bluetooth Earphones on Kickstarter

Ropes USA are a colorful special edition of ROAM’s first product, the Ropes Bluetooth earphones, now successfully funded on Kickstarter with a $100,000 goal. Ropes’ design is somewhat reminiscent of Beats earphones and that’s probably the intention because ROAM is a company founded by Steven Lamar, an entrepreneur with a history related to Beats’ origins. The Ropes Bluetooth earphones also remind us of how early Bluetooth products looked back in 2010.

Next Stage of Business Expansion for MQA with Mike Jbara as CEO

Music technology specialist MQA (Master Quality Authenticated), the music technology company founded by Bob Stuart, announced that it has hired music executive Mike Jbara as CEO. Jbara joins MQA from Warner Music Group, where he has held roles for 20 years, from president and CEO of WEA Corp, to president of Warner’s Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) and, most recently, as EVP of Technology and Business Process. In addition to day-to-day leadership responsibility, Jbara will sit on the Board of MQA Ltd.

Google Discovers Ambisonics and Says it’s the Soundtrack of VR or Something

Google, the company that makes a business out of anything that’s Open Source, announced its new Omnitone project, a platform that they say “brings spatial audio to the web in order to provide more immersive VR experiences, using only the Web Audio API.” The platform uses all the known spatial audio, ambisonics and binaural techniques, including several existing open source efforts, now released on a set of integrated tools that enable exploring immersive audio or spatial audio directly on a web browser.
