Renesas Lays Out Roadmap for Wi-Fi 6/6E and 7 Chipsets

During the electronica 2022 show in Munich, Germany, Renesas Electronics unveiled plans to deliver a comprehensive set of advanced Wi-Fi offerings to complement its broad portfolio of industrial and connected products. In 2021, Renesas completed its acquisition of Celeno, a company from Israel specializing in wireless communication solutions, including advanced Wi-Fi chipsets for high-performance home networks, and is leveraging that technology to address a wide range WLAN access point applications for Wi-Fi 6/6E and Wi-Fi 7.

Sonos and Lenbrook Industries reached a settlement in Sonos’ patent infringement lawsuit against Lenbrook regarding the Bluesound wireless audio systems. Undisclosed terms include a multi-year licensing deal associated with all BluOS enabled solutions worldwide. This announcement comes after a patent infringement deal was also settled with Sound United regarding the Denon HEOS solutions. Sonos continues to fight in court against Google to protect its wireless audio patents.

Increasing worldwide broadband penetration, combined with the adoption of multiple connected devices, bandwidth-intensive, and low latency applications in each household is continuously driving the demand for efficient Wi-Fi Consumer Premises Equipment (CPE) devices. Global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research, forecasts that the Wi-Fi CPE market, including routers, gateways, whole-home mesh systems, access points, and Wi-Fi extenders will generate 221 million unit shipments in 2019.

Following the announcement made earlier, on December 7, 2016, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) officially adopted Bluetooth 5 as the latest version of the Bluetooth core specification. Key updates to Bluetooth 5 include longer range, faster speed, and larger broadcast message capacity, as well as improved interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies.
