xMEMS Announces World's First Solid-State MEMS DynamicVent, Enabling Active Ambient Control for Next-Generation TWS and Hearing Aids

Part of xMEMS Labs announcements at CES 2023, the innovative MEMS speaker company introduced Skyline, the world’s first discrete solid-state MEMS DynamicVent, a specific design with a valve that opens or closes by sensor fusion input from the earbud DSP and enables the benefits of both an open-fit (spatially aware) and closed-fit (occluded) earbud design. This enables smart TWS earbuds and hearing aids that create best-of-both-worlds user experiences in the same product.

Following the FDA release of the anticipated Over-the-Counter (OTC) hearing aid regulations, with intent to increase access for people with untreated hearing loss, the GN Group immediately announced its support to that ambition. CEVA announced that its latest RivieraWaves Bluetooth 5.3 IP family now supports Auracast broadcast audio, the new audio sharing standard, based on the Bluetooth LE Audio broadcasting specification, unveiled by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). According to CEVA, Auracast broadcast audio is set to transform the shared audio experience, enabling an unlimited number of Auracast receiver-compliant devices such as TWS earbuds, headphones, hearing aids and wireless speakers to simultaneously receive audio broadcast from one or several Auracast transmitter devices.

Hearables’ Shipments to Exceed 200 Million Globally by 2024, Juniper Research Predicts

A new study by Juniper Research has found that hearables’ shipments will exceed 200 million units by 2024, up from 165 million in 2022; representing total growth of 30% over the next two years. The market research firm sees assistive and healthcare-focused hearables segments — typified by Nuheara’s IQbuds and Bose’s SoundControl Hearing Aids — are key to this growth; comprising 18% of hearables shipments by 2024, compared to 12% in 2021.
