Realtek Semiconductor (Taiwan) and Alango Technologies (Israel) have announced a collaboration to provide a joint solution that delivers the Alango PersonaSound suite of software technologies, ported and optimized for the latest Realtek Bluetooth SoCs. This collaboration aims to address the global problem of hearing loss, which affects 1.5 billion people worldwide.

Digital Signal Processing for Over-The-Counter Hearing Aids

I wrote a whitepaper looking at the principles of digital signal processing, algorithms,and software that improve hearing for people with hearing loss. This article is intended as an introduction. The complete whitepaper is available for download. The inspiration for this whitepaper comes from the World Health Organization's recent World Report on Hearing (WHO), which shows that 1.5 billion people worldwide have some degree of hearing loss and 430 million people need rehabilitation services. Shockingly, less than 3% (on average worldwide) use hearing aids.

In 2022, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the Auracast extension of the Bluetooth LE Audio specifications, combining audio sharing and broadcast audio into a new term that would make it easier to promote. The audio innovation promises to propel audio streaming forward by letting users share their audio or select from publicly available Auracast wireless audio streams. At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona the technology was demonstrated in a practical manner for the very first time.

Part of xMEMS Labs announcements at CES 2023, the innovative MEMS speaker company introduced Skyline, the world’s first discrete solid-state MEMS DynamicVent, a specific design with a valve that opens or closes by sensor fusion input from the earbud DSP and enables the benefits of both an open-fit (spatially aware) and closed-fit (occluded) earbud design. GN Announces Jabra Enhance Plus will Enter OTC Hearing Aid Category

Following the FDA release of the anticipated Over-the-Counter (OTC) hearing aid regulations, with intent to increase access for people with untreated hearing loss, the GN Group immediately announced its support to that ambition. The market leading group that owns hearing aid brands Resound and Beltone, together with Jabra, the communications and all-in-one hearing enhancement consumer brand, announced that it will seek to register its Jabra Enhance Plus technology as an OTC product.
