COMSOL Announces Multiphysics v5.3 Software with Important Improvements on the Acoustics Module

COMSOL announced the latest release of the COMSOL Multiphysics and COMSOL Server simulation software. Version 5.3 provides notable performance improvements and powerful app design and deployment capabilities with new modeling and development tools, solvers, and user-driven features. Those using the Acoustics Module will benefit from new functionality that greatly improves time-domain simulations of acoustics phenomena and facilitates solving large acoustics-based models.

Eventide entered a new plug-in paradigm by announcing availability of FISSION — the first product to feature its seminal Structural Effects method for cleanly and completely separating the transient and tonal components of a sound in a patent-pending approach which makes it practical to modify the individual components independently. FISSION is effectively a multi-effects plug-in for music creation with an interesting potential for audio processing applications.

Keysight Technologies announced the availability of a newly updated Method of Implementation (MOI) document for cable and connector assembly compliance tests defined in Rev. 1.1 of the USB Type-C specification and Rev. 1.0 of the USB Type-C Compliance Test Specification (CTS). The step-by-step document provides measurement procedures for compliance testing USB Type-C cables and connectors in the time and frequency domains, using the ENA Network Analyzer.

My recent visit to the new LinearX headquarters in Battle Ground, WA, confirmed that this very powerful new audio analyzer is finally in production. The first LX500 release will be the frequency domain version and the list of features is seriously impressive.

British audio company, Flare Audio, has launched what they describe as “the world’s first ‘fully’ open back headphones”. The Reference R1 uses several patent-pending technologies for driver alignment, reduce enclosure vibration and remove enclosed residual pressure interference (ERPI), to allow distortion free sound, even at full volume. The result, Flare claims, is “a completely new listening experience”.
