Focal Professional unveiled the new Trio11 Be active studio monitors at NAMM 2019, which the French brand considers a new benchmark design, making it possible to work as nearfields or midfields. MISCO recently unveiled a brand new version of a legendary driver. The new MS10-W, will be marketed under the new MISCO brand, Bold North Audio, and it is effectively a direct replacement for the famous white driver on Yamaha’s NS10 studio monitors! The MS10-W actually includes a lightweight white flat profile seamed paper cone with a white paper convex dust cap, and compliance is provided by a 12 mm wide coated cloth surround and a 3.25” diameter cupped cloth spider.

At CES 2019, Harman introduced the JBL 4312G studio monitor, another modern take on the classic JBL loudspeaker line - which seems to be the trend for the consumer side of the brand in the last two years. Crafted in the mold of the legendary 4310/4311 family, and the more recent 70th Anniversary 4312SE, the 4312G is said to deliver “thundering, clear bass, with crystalline and precise highs, even at the highest listening levels.” We are not sure those would be the arguments that would persuade us to invest in the vintage concept of this high-performance studio monitor.

This edition of Test Bench characterizes the 12FCX76, 12” high-performance pro sound coaxial from B&C Speakers. This coaxial driver is similar to the 12FHX76, where the “H” designates that it uses a horn-loaded compression driver, while the “C” in the 12FCX76 stands for conical-loaded compression driver (the “F” is for ferrite). The 12FCX76 uses ferrite motors for both the woofer and the compression driver. In this Test Bench, Vance Dickason looks at an interesting new high-frequency transducer: the 951PB, a 1.4” exit pro sound compression driver from Radian Audio Engineering, based in Orange, CA. The 951PB shares an almost identical feature set with the existing 950PB. Both have neodymium ring magnet motors, high temperature 101.6 mm (4”) diameter polyimide voice coil formers wound with copper-clad aluminum-edge wound ribbon wire voice coils.
