SMPTE Announces 2022 Honorees and Awards John Meyer the Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal

SMPTE, the home of media professionals, technologists, and engineers, has once again honored industry luminaries and next-generation leaders. The 2022 SMPTE Awards Gala takes place during the SMPTE Media Technology Summit (The Summit), the Society's first in-person conference since 2019. Among the names honored by the SMPTE, John Meyer receives the Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal, which recognizes a Lifetime of Contributions to Excellence in Cinema Sound.

Ascendo Immersive Audio has introduced four versions of its much-anticipated CCRM15 speaker system, now available in passive and powered active models and with Titanium or Beryllium drivers. The 15" point-source axi-symmetric speaker has been designed as a screen channel for large theaters as left, center and right channels or can be used for very large theaters as a surround bed speaker. The CCRM15 Beryllium is now the top performing coaxial model from Ascendo.

Dutch sound innovator Alcons Audio continues to expand its range of cinema speakers, now introducing the CRMS-SRIW/9090 model to enable more output and coverage from less depth. The new versatile, wide dispersion design can be used as a reference main / screen system, or a compact surround system in immersive sound-for-picture applications. The Alcons CRMS-SRIW/9090 can also be used as full-range sound system in any installed audio application, where a very high quality sound reproduction with inconspicuous in-wall or on-wall mounting is required.

Alcons Audio expanded its Cinema Reference Monitor Systems (CRMS) series, featuring fully matched screen and surround speaker systems using identical MF/HF transducer components. Alcons has now introduced its latest CRMS-SRIW/120 main/screen 2-way passive-filtered full range loudspeaker, with just 100 mm (3.9") depth, equipped with the patented Alcons pro-ribbon driver technology.

Pro Audio Technology (PRO), the supplier of high-output loudspeakers and DSP loudspeaker controllers for installed residential systems, announced three new model additions to its SR series of loudspeakers, as well as an innovative new pivot bracket that provides installation flexibility. The new SR-25im, SR-6im, and SR-26im are discreet but superior sounding speakers, ideal for home theater and multi-room audio environments. And, like the rest of the SR Series, all models feature enhanced cosmetics and more discreet enclosures.

Among the many iPhone-clone phones introduced at MWC 2019, some are more deserving of attention than others. Most of the brands introduce so many different models, that most of them will stay unnoticed by the market anyway. Among the Android-based phones, LG is the company that shows more restrain, focusing on improving key features that users will effectively appreciate, while exploring brand new technologies. In the audio front, the new LG G8 ThinQ model stands-out for its screen speaker and improved audio features.
