Alcons Audio Introduces New CRMS Wide Dispersion Cinema Speaker

February 25 2021, 01:10
Dutch sound innovator Alcons Audio continues to expand its range of cinema speakers, now introducing the CRMS-SRIW/9090 model to enable more output and coverage from less depth. The new versatile, wide dispersion design can be used as a reference main / screen system, or a compact surround system in immersive sound-for-picture applications. The Alcons CRMS-SRIW/9090 can also be used as full-range sound system in any installed audio application, where a very high quality sound reproduction with inconspicuous in-wall or on-wall mounting is required.

Typical applications for the Alcons CRMS-SRIW/9090 include sound system for auditoria, performing arts theaters, screening rooms, post-production facilities and dubbing stages, premium Home Cinemas and quality-conscious cinemas. As the company explains, the CRMS-SRIW/9090, like its sibling CRMS-SRIW/9040, is part of the CRMS system series which uses identical MHF components, offering a perfect voicing matching and tonal balance within the product family.

Featuring the multiple-patented Alcons pro-ribbon transducer technology, the CRMS-SRIW/9090 system combines an exceptional clarity and intelligibility with an unusually high dynamic range, offering the most realistic sound reproduction possible.

The two-way passive-filtered CRMS-SRIW system consists of the RBN401 pro-ribbon driver for HF and a vented 8" mid-bass for LF reproduction; the HF section has a 800 W peak power input, enabling a 1:15 dynamic range with up to 90% less distortion from 1kHz to beyond 20kHz.

The CRMS-SRIW/9090 features a patented 90-degrees and patent-pending 90-degrees dispersion up to the highest frequencies. This offers a very wide and coherent direct-field coverage throughout the listening space, it also guarantees a consistent reflected diffuse-field response.

The CRMS-SRIW system’s low frequency section is tuned for a usable frequency response down to 58Hz, enabling a smooth transition with additional LFE subwoofer systems. The Signal Integrity Sensing (SIS) pre-wiring ensures complete cable/connector compensation between the CRMS-SRIW and the ALC amplified loudspeaker controller, the dedicated drive-engine; together with VHIR processing, SIS significantly increases response accuracy, deleting artifacts that are common in traditional systems.

"On the heels of the development of the CRMSC in-wall with less than 4-in/10cm depth, larger applications demanded a higher output, but at the same time, also required a wide projection for near-field applications and for overhead or height-layer immersive sound systems. So the design brief was: more output, wider dispersion and a minimal mounting depth," explains Philip “Dr. Phil” de Haan, head of Alcons Audio R&D.

"Further implementation of our new patent-pending waveguide technology into the larger RBN 4-inch driver platform lead to a possible cabinet depth of 150mm (5.9-in), while delivering a constant, wide projection of a true 90-degree by 90-degree up to 20.000Hz.

"By utilizing the same transducer components throughout our different product lines, albeit with different form factors, this system feels equally at home in home-theaters and studios, as well as in performing arts theaters or houses of worship to name a few. And as a result of our tight manufacturing standards, all our systems are well within “matched pair” tolerance, for a reference-grade response, regardless of the selected system," he adds.

Further to the shallow depth, the CRMS-SRIW also features an optional cloth grill and ACO Architect Color Option in 180+ RAL color schemes for easy, inconspicuous in-wall or on-wall mounting. The system comes with a 6-year “no hassle” warranty.
