Lyngdorf Audio High-End Cue-100 Speaker Unveiled at ISE 2023

Lyngdorf Audio launched its all-new high-end audio loudspeaker, the Cue-100. The Lyngdorf Cue-100 is the first loudspeaker from the brand merging modern Danish design with the latest Purifi speaker technology. The benchmark-setting Purifi aluminum drivers are integrated in a uniquely shaped cabinet, finished in satin-black or satin-white with solid oak elements, and available with a selection of five all-around fabric covers by Gabriel from Denmark.

For this Test Bench, Vance Dickason focused his full attention on another innovative driver from Purifi Audio, this time the PTT5.25X04-NFA-01 5.25” Midbass Woofer. At the core, this Purifi midbass woofer is pretty much identical to the PTT6.5X and PTT4.0X, and includes the same constant Sd surround and low magnetic hysteresis motor design. The remainder of this issue is centered on Test Bench characterizations of two very innovative drivers that Vance Dickason has received. The first one on the Test Bench was the PTT6.5M08-NFA-01 6.5" Midrange from Purifi Audio; The second driver was the already popular SW26DBAC76-4 10" shallow subwoofer from SB Acoustics.

Most of our readers still remember Tom Perazella’s extraordinary egg speaker project with SB Acoustics Satori drivers, featured in the September, October, and November 2018 issues of audioXpress. Inspired by that design, Metz decided to build his own version, and also explore his own take with an active crossover tri-amp approach using a miniDSP 4x10HD system feeding a dedicated six-channel amplifier using Purifi 425W Class-D units. Danish audio powerhouse Purifi Audio is not showing any intention of slowing down its efforts to push innovation further in both audio amplification and speaker transducers. Adding to the original formula - featuring proprietary fiber paper cones - used in the successful PTT4.0X and PTT6.5X midbass drivers, Purifi now announced a new aluminum-cone version of the PTT6.5X, delivering extended frequency range with ultra low distortion for superior midrange performance.

This Test Bench addresses Purifi Audio’s PTT4.0X04-NFA-01 4” midbass, which is very similar to the PTT6.5X reviewed in Voice Coil July 2021, and includes the same constant Sd surround and low magnetic hysteresis motor design. The distinct cone assembly for this driver consists of a flat profile paper cone made with a proprietary fiber mix, a concave dust cap that covers about 90% of the cone surface, plus the addition of a V-shaped edge reinforcing ring glued around the outside rim of the back side of the cone. Compliance is provided by a unique NBR surround, which as in the PTT6.5X surround, deserves to be explored, motivating Vance to discuss it with Purifi’s co-founder Lars Risbo.
