With the transition to immersive audio formats which are object-based, Dolby is promoting its new AC-4 audio coding system to bridge both conventional channel-based audio and new immersive formats on next-generation broadcast and streaming services. The solution is available now for product development and is targeted for consumer availability starting in 2017.

Advanced Television Systems Committee Begins Review of ATSC 3.0 Audio System Proposals

On December 2014, the ATSC issued a Call for Proposals for a comprehensive audio system for the next generation ATSC 3.0 digital television standard. Dolby (with Atmos), DTS (with DTS:X) and a consortium comprising Technicolor, Fraunhofer and Qualcomm (jointly promoting MPEG-H Audio) have submitted their audio systems. Now, the ATSC has begun its technical review of the three detailed proposals.

Auro Technologies announced a partnership with Eleven Dimensions Media, who will be distributing the Auro-3D Creative Tool Suite through their reseller networks. The suite consists on a series of production tools, including 3D panning and mixing plug-ins, with support for all Auro-3D formats and various Surround formats, as well as encoding with the Auro-Codec.

Auro Technologies Promotes Auro-3D Immersive Sound

Auro Technologies in cooperation with several partners demonstrated its immersive audio format at the 137th AES Convention in Los Angeles, showcasing Auro-3D recording, editing and play-back at various demo booths onsite. Fairlight also demonstrated its new immersive tools for audio at the AES, supporting Auro-3D, while Merging Technologies introduced its new 3D Panner, developed in collaboration with Auro Technologies.
