For the fifth consecutive year, market research firm Futuresource Consulting promoted its Audio Collaborative conference, a highly successful event dedicated to the latest audio trends. This year, Audio Collaborative 2018 was an all-day event, held in London, UK, on November 8, 2018. In this article I look at another two of the sessions, the panels discussing live and touring trends, and how the pro audio industry can leverage opportunities in the consumer space; and try to summarize some key content, and maybe add some context and perspective.

Apogee Electronics announced a new much improved version of its Jam portable interface. The all new Jam+ is a studio grade USB instrument input and output that connects an electric guitar, bass, keyboard or any acoustic instrument with a pickup, directly to any iOS device, Mac, or Windows PC. With an adapter (sold separately) users can also connect a dynamic microphone. This is the slogan used by Frankfurt Messe to promote the 2019 edition of those two prestigious shows, which could risk being the last ones if the new adopted model doesn't work. After many years of forced separation, the Frankfurt show complex will finally open the brand new Halls 12 (two levels), enabling Prolight+Sound to grow into a modern space, while Musikmesse returns to the much appreciated Halls 3. The good news is that Gibson Brands finally filed for bankruptcy, having reached an agreement to reorganize around its Core Businesses and Iconic Brand to continue to manufacture, supply, and distribute guitars and pro audio products. Gibson Brands will sell its consumer electronics businesses and brands. Also bad, Henry Juszkiewicz is still with Gibson. On another good news, the company has secured $135 million to keep going.

For 2019, Frankfurt Messe promises to return to a unified format, with Musikmesse and Prolight+Sound overlaping fully on all days and move closer together spatially.
