Loudspeaker Knowledge and Innovation in Voice Coil April 2024

The Acoustic Transducer Company (ATC) announced the production of the C4 Sub Mk 2 active subwoofer system, expanding its hifi range of home audio products. Designed to unite the highest standards of driver and electronics in a single system, the C4 Sub Mk 2 deploys an all-new proprietary 12-inch SS75-314SC sub-bass driver, powered by a newly developed 300W class AB amplifier design, both elements hand-built and installed within a substantial cabinet at the company’s Stroud-based production HQ.

Dutch Pro-Ribbon specialists Alcons Audio have expanded its range of loudspeaker solutions with a new innovative design. The Alcons QB363 mkII is a modular column bass system, designed as a low-frequency extension (LFE) system to the Q-series line-source column systems - such as the versatile QRP20 Pro-Ribbon column array, or the more recent QRP40 point-source column. However, the new compact design can be used as an arrayable LFE system with any Alcons system.

Meyer Sound announced a new 2100-LFC low-frequency control array element, a powerful new loudspeaker design that extends the advanced technology of its latest Phanter large-format linear line array loudspeaker down to the lowest limits of audibility. By pairing a potent Class-D amplifier with a single, all-new 21-inch driver with four voice coils, the 2100-LFC produces an extended frequency response from 30Hz to 125Hz.

Successful British loudspeaker manufacturer Void Acoustics continues to expand its range of installation oriented products, in parallel with its incredibly popular clubbing designs. Part of its recently updated Venu V2 loudspeaker series, Void has now added an ultra-compact subwoofer equipped to overcome challenging installations. Using dual 8” high excursion woofers, the Venu 208 subwoofer is ideal for low-frequency extension in distributed or background music systems.

Alcons Audio has two very interesting new speaker designs. The CRMS-SRHV surround is a 2-way passive-filtered loudspeaker, featuring the patented Alcons pro-ribbon driver technology, and designed to meet all requirements of current and future immersive surround sound formats. Alcons Audio also introduced the QB242 Arrayable Subwoofer, a modular bass element, designed as a fully-scalable low-frequency extension (LFE) system to the QR24 line-source column system, or as arrayable LFE system with any Alcons pro-ribbon system.
