Void Acoustics Launches New Venu 208 Ultra-Compact Subwoofer

Successful British loudspeaker manufacturer Void Acoustics continues to expand its range of installation oriented products, in parallel with its incredibly popular clubbing designs. Part of its recently updated Venu V2 loudspeaker series, Void has now added an ultra-compact subwoofer equipped to overcome challenging installations. Using dual 8” high excursion woofers, the Venu 208 subwoofer is ideal for low-frequency extension in distributed or background music systems.

The Venu 208 subwoofer incorporates all the key elements of the Venu V2 loudspeaker range in a compact and stylish, loudspeaker enclosure. According to Void, the new design meets a growing demand for a versatile, low frequency compact speaker solution that matches the specifications of the larger Venu speakers but contained within a flexible, smaller unit. It is suitable for multiple applications including bars, clubs, hotels, restaurants and lounges, as well as high-end domestic installs.

This addition to the series has already received high levels of interest, and pre-orders have resulted in initial production runs being increased by over 50% to meet initial demand. The product inspiration was driven by the North American team who applied previous design knowledge to drive the sonic characteristics and the design aspects of the product from the start of the R&D process.

“We knew there was a market demand for this type of enclosure – smaller and more compact, but with the recognizable and exceptional audio quality of a Void product,” explains Mike Newman, Void Acoustics’ Head of Sales. “We designed the product specifically with low SPL applications such as restaurants or relaxed bar settings in mind. It needed to be inconspicuous but still pack a punch in terms of the audio delivery.”

The Venu 208 compact enclosure, made entirely from multi-laminate birch plywood, offers flexibility for smaller and more intimate venues and even private settings. It is designed to offer ease of installation in a wider variety of places including under-bench, on-wall or on-ceiling. With a recessed rear connector panel built into the design, it has the benefit of being able to be placed flush against a wall. Connectivity includes speakON and Phoenix connectors with link throughs.

It is also perfect for full channel utilization and the very high efficiency transducers mean that at only 300 watts, the speaker can be driven from a single channel on the small Bias Q1 amp from Void Acoustics, keeping the cost of powering the product very modest.

There has been an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Void’s global dealer network who had formal product previews a few weeks before the official launch. Peggy Fleutot from Musique Industrie Développement (MID), Void’s French Distributor explains. “It’s very simple, the Venu 208 will be used where we had no suitable product before. It means that we are now able to install bass units under benches in cafes. It is thin enough to be almost invisible. Our customers are looking forward to this product and we already have many projects where it is at the heart of the specification.”

Mike Newman confirms this enthusiasm. “We’ve had a great response from our dealers and distributors around the world, and we are very confident this will be a popular product going forward.”
