AES New York 2023 Convention Promotes UWB Workshop, Friday, October 27

The Audio Engineering Society created a new Task Group to develop a new standard for Ultra Wideband (UWB) high resolution, low latency audio. During the 155th AES New York 2023 Convention (October 25-27), a dedicated workshop will detail the potential of UWB for audio, and this new AES effort. Titled "UWB – A New Wireless Tech in the Future of Pro Audio" the panel will include Jackie Green (UWB Alliance), Jonny McClintock (AntennaWare/Audio Codecs), Gary Spittle (Sonical), Torbev Sonderskov (Lenbrook), and Alexis Bizalion (Qorvo).

Audeze announced Maxwell, a new ultra-low-latency wireless headset with class-leading 80+ hours of battery life, which comes with a Dolby Atmos license for select compatible platforms. With the new model, Audeze introduced a new upgraded, retro-looking earcup design for its planar magnetic drivers. The new design is also its ugliest product ever, but at least it already supports Bluetooth LE Audio, adds support for the LC3plus codec, and offers high-resolution audio over USB-C.

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled a new speaker solution specifically for gaming, which may signal the onset of a new headset-free design, with large potential for all home office applications. The new LG UltraGear Gaming Speaker (model GP9) was designed to be a companion to LG’s premium UltraGear gaming monitors, with game-optimized sound. But the technical specs reveal a whole lot more, making it a very interesting speaker/sound system.

British audio specialist Q Acoustics introduced the M20 HD wireless music system, featuring aptX HD Bluetooth connectivity for wireless streaming of high resolution-quality stereo audio from devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and network streamers. Designed to deliver superior audio, the M20 speakers feature advanced driver technology, reinforced P2P (Point to Point) cabinets, and an elegant, classic design to create an affordable but class-leading wireless stereo experience.

The synergy between musical instrument brands and consumer electronics is able to generate extremely powerful lifestyle marketing strategies. The Meters range of headphones by Ashdown Engineering, combines the legacy of design and engineering of the bass amplifier brand in a unique range of consumer audio products, launched originally at CES 2017, in Las Vegas. Following the introduction of new updated models, the Meters headphone range is now being launched in the US market.

Creative Technology will be showcasing its latest range of audio solutions at IFA 2019 (September 5-11). Spanning categories from high-performance headphones and true wireless earbuds to portable speakers and high-resolution sound cards, Creative will be featuring a diverse portfolio of products at its booth, including exclusive previews of the first Sound Blaster with Super X-Fi processing and what the company calls its best Super X-Fi headphones yet, the new Super X-Fi Theater Headphones.
