ZYLIA ZM-1 360-Degree Sound Recording System Now Available for Sale in the United States

Zylia, the Poland-based manufacturer of multitrack audio recording technologies, announced that its acclaimed ZYLIA ZM-1 microphone array is now available for sale in the United States. Designed for bands and musical ensembles, sound engineers, podcasters, and audio creatives working in 3D audio, Ambisonics, and virtual reality, the new ZYLIA ZM-1 is an incredibly light, compact, and beautifully designed recording solution capable of delivering 48 kilohertz/24-bit resolution while capturing the full spatial sound scene.

Responding to a growing interest in all types of applications for its Zylia ZM-1 spherical mic array - originally promoted as a portable recording studio able to capture a live performance and output the result to multitrack - the Poland-based manufacturer now announced a series of software releases that significantly expand its potential uses. First of all, Zylia introduced an Ambisonics Converter that simplifies output for 360 platforms, while its Zylia Studio PRO software adds source localization with the ZM-1.

The 145th AES International Convention in New York City will host a number of exciting educational events. One of the most intriguing is a half-day training session in immersive media production using the Facebook 360 platform. The workshop will cover the end-to-end workflow for spatial audio design and asset preparation of 360 and 180 immersive videos using Facebook 360 Spatial Workstation tools.

First announced in Q4 2016, Facebook's 360 audio technology was discussed for the first time at Video@Scale, an invitation-only technical conference for engineers who work on large-scale video platforms and technologies. During the event, Facebook revealed more details of its new spatial audio encoding and rendering technology, using "hybrid higher-order ambisonics," and supporting head-locked audio for virtual reality applications.
