AudioQuest Announces New NightHawk Carbon and NightOwl Carbon Headphones

Highly praised for its innovative approach to headphone design and combination of materials, AudioQuest’s first headphone, the NightHawk, offers a unique combination of comfort and sound quality. The Californian company says the NightHawk’s success was evidence of the intensifying convergence between the high-fidelity and high-technology worlds. But different users demand options, and now AudioQuest decided to expand the range with two new around-the-ear models: NightHawk Carbon and NightOwl Carbon.

In this article, originally published in Voice Coil April 2014, the author and inventor describes the Eddy Current (EC) driver concept, a new kind of electromagnetic transducer for sound and ultrasound reproduction. The transducer is unique in that the force acting on the membrane is uniformly distributed over much of it, as in an electrostatic sound transducer, but with substantially more power per square unit.

French loudspeaker specialist Focal has already stirred the market with its strong entrance in the headphone category, with consumer and professional models. Now, following two years of development, Focal announces a strong product also in the in-ear category with their new Sphear headphones, designed by Simon Matthews.
