Avid Pro Tools to Provide Native Dolby Atmos Mixing

Avid has introduced several groundbreaking innovations at NAB 2017, including a next-generation video/audio interface in cooperation with Blackmagic, a new version of its Avid NEXIS storage platform for media, a free version of its Media Composer video editing system, and much more. On the audio front Avid announced a collaboration with Dolby to deliver deep integration of Dolby Atmos audio mixing to create a new powerful immersive audio workflow.

Avid announced a new version of its fully cloud-enabled Pro Tools application, the industry-leading digital audio workstation software used by award-winning artists and the largest media companies in the world. Powered by Avid's integrated MediaCentral Platform, Pro Tools 12.7 brings new music creation workflows, plus improvements for artists and audio professionals to connect and collaborate anywhere in the world via the cloud.

Digital Audio Workstations have reached their peak some time ago and even the market leaders are wondering where to take their products next. Meanwhile, companies like Propellerhead, Steinberg and several new players are placing their bets on cloud software and online music collaboration tools as the way forward. Swedish company Soundtrap is the latest sensation in online music tools, supporting any devices and OS platforms.

With a user base growing impatient for relevant updates (meaning new faster tools and functions), Avid has just announced the launch of Pro Tools 12.5, introducing the promised Avid Cloud Collaboration functionalities. Avid also updated its music notation and composition software Sibelius to version 8.2, introducing the user community’s top requests.

Precisely a year since the last major update, Steinberg Media Technologies announced availability of its new Cubase Pro 8.5 and Cubase Artist 8.5 music production systems. The updates to these popular software packages introduce new creative tools, workflow enhancements while taking online collaboration within Cubase to the next level with VST Transit.

Avid confirmed that its next generation digital audio software, Pro Tools 12 is now available. As previously announced during NAMM 2015 at the start of the year, the new Pro Tools 12 comes with flexible licensing options, by subscription, software purchase and upgrade plans. There’s also Pro Tools First, a free version.
