Sound United, parent company to Denon, Polk Audio, Marantz, Definitive Technology, HEOS, Classé, and Boston Acoustics, announced the immediate availability of MPEG-H 3D Audio format support across a wide range of home theater products. Working alongside Fraunhofer IIS, the primary developer of the MPEG-H Audio standard, selected Denon and Marantz AV amplifiers and AV preprocessors will receive MPEG-H support via a firmware update.

MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile Now Supported by Analog Devices’ DSPs

Fraunhofer IIS announced that Analog Devices is offering certified decoder implementations supporting the new MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile on its ADSP-215xx series of audio digital signal processors (DSPs). Analog Devices's DSPs are used extensively for audio video receivers, soundbars, speakers and headphones. Adding MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile decoding capabilities to Analog Devices’ ADSP-215xx series of audio DSPs will bring immersive and personalized audio experiences to more consumers.

Bluetooth SIG to Begin Qualifying Products Using LC3 Codec

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced it will start qualifying products using the LC3 Low Complexity Communication Codec, part of the new LE Audio Specification announced at CES 2020, back in January. Even though the organization doesn't expect the rest of the specifications that define all the use cases for LE Audio to be released before mid-year 2021, manufacturers are officially encouraged to start implementing the new Fraunhofer/Ericsson codec.

Fraunhofer IIS Licenses MPEG-H Audio Patents to Samsung

Fraunhofer IIS announced the licensing of its MPEG-H Audio patents to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., allowing Samsung to manufacture products that feature MPEG-H Audio, including TVs and set-top-boxes. As the major contributor to the MPEG-H 3D Audio standard, Fraunhofer IIS is also leading the licensing efforts to enable the broadcast, mobile, media and streaming services and consumer electronics industries to quickly bring MPEG-H Audio to market.
