New EKX Portable Loudspeakers from Electro-Voice

Electro-Voice introduced its latest portable sound family of speakers at the 2015 NAMM Show. The new EKX series targets live/club/installed sound applications and was engineered by EV to deliver best-in-class performance and reliability, using digital signal processing control, Signal Synchronized Transducers (SST) waveguide design, and Cardioid Control Technology for subwoofers.

Focusing on immersive two-channel and action-packed home theater audio experiences, the SVS suites at CES highlighted demos of the new Tidal high fidelity music streaming service brought to life with SVS Prime and flagship Ultra Speakers, the “Pillar of Bass” PC-2000 Cylinder Subwoofer and the newly released Emotiva XMC-1 Preamp/Processor.

Crown Audio expanded its DriveCore Install (DCi) Series amplifier range with the introduction of its DCi Network Display 8|600ND and 4|1250ND power amplifiers, featuring front-panel status displays and AVB (Audio Video Bridging) connectivity. The new eight- and four-channel DCi Network Display amplifiers combine DriveCore technology with AVB and are compatible with Harman’s HiQnet Audio Architect system setup and control software. Both offer direct drive “constant voltage” capabilities for 70Vrms and 100Vrms amplification without the need for a step-up transformer.

New England Audio Resource (N.E.A.R., which was originally called New England Audio Research) was founded in 1988 by Bill Kieltyka. Interestingly, the company purchased a lot of the transducer tooling from Rudy Bozak, and its line was always based, as with Bozak, on aluminum cone woofers and tweeters. (For a period of time, I designed the networks for the entire N.E.A.R. line of two-channel and home-theater speakers).

I was not really seeing audio products designed for a variety of applications with different approaches to record or play back music that would suit my needs. So in late 2009/2010, the former head engineer from Summit Audio and I started designing visionary gear.
