Voice Coil February 2022 Highlights Innovation in Speaker Diaphragms

The February 2022 edition of Voice Coil is now available and brings the latest information about speaker diaphragms and all the innovations in cones, domes, and surrounds. Martin Turesson tells the story of Composite Sound and its second-generation Metamodal TPCD technology, while Mike Klasco discusses advancements in materials and processes for speaker diaphragms and surrounds. And in Test Bench, Vance Dickason characterizes the latest Satori MW19TX-8 midbass woofer by SB Acoustics using TPCD (TeXtreme) technology, before addressing the latest Industry updates.

While audioXpress did highlight already the 36th Annual NAMM Creative and Technical TEC Awards when those were announced, because there was no actually NAMM show this year (and no actual TEC Award ceremony) we still needed to confirm the 2021 TECnology Hall of Fame Inductees. These are awards also confirmed every year to honor and recognize audio products and innovations that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of audio technology.

IK Multimedia has released the T-RackS Tape Machine Collection for its industry standard T-RackS mixing and mastering software workstation. This new collection of plug-ins recreates the iconic sound and character of four classic tape recording machines from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s: the Ampex 440B, the Studer A80, the MCI JH24 and the Revox PR99. In addition to finely detailed machine emulations, the collection also offers a selection of reel-to-reel tape formulas, variable tape speed, transport controls, and other tone shaping features.

Hearing Components, the manufacturer of Comply Foam Tip products, has announced a partnership with Sennheiser to develop a custom tip to fit specifically on the Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear (MIE2), CX 3.00, and CX 5.00 earphone models. This custom Comply Premium Foam tip is now available exclusively on the US Sennheiser website, with a one-pair and a three-pair pack option for $6.99 and $15.99, respectively.

There are many subtle ways a speaker designer can use the collar to “tune” the speaker-design for optimum response, added strength, increased thermal tolerance, better assembly fit, and more. Many materials are available for use as a collar but a careful understanding of the physical properties of these materials is required for optimum selection.
