Zylia Demonstrates 6 Degrees of Freedom High-Resolution Recording of Live Concerts

June 4 2020, 00:20
Zylia created a new demonstration that shows the possibilities of fully navigable 6 degrees of freedom audio technology using the ZYLIA 6DoF VR/AR set. The company is constantly working on providing state-of-the-art solutions in the field of 3D audio recording and post-production and recently presented the new technology that allows recording high-resolution 3rd order Ambisonics sounds from concert halls, ambient soundscapes, and live concerts in a fully navigable way. It can be then rendered and used in virtual and augmented reality projects allowing users to flexibly move within a recorded scene.

The technology adopted in the ZYLIA 6DoF VR/AR set allows recording sounds from multiple places simultaneously - which then provides an unlimited number of possible listening spots around the area. After the recordings of all the Zylia spherical microphone arrays is rendered, users can freely move, turn around, tilt their heads in any direction, and the sound will change corresponding to the position of the user's ears.

With this demonstration, the 3D audio recording array pioneer intends to promote fully navigable audio experiences in six degrees of freedom. "We are observing a growing interest in the area of VR and immersive art projects in which the 3D audio built on the smoothness of sound sensations becomes key to the feeling of full immersion. Additionally, the recent global situation further justifies the development of tools supporting virtual reality" says Tomasz Zernicki, Chief Technology Officer, Zylia.

"Applications of 6DoF audio and our technology are wide. I can name a few - cinematic trailers for VR projects, naturally sounded audio for games, live performances recording, artistic audio content for domes with multi-loudspeakers installations, or virtual presentation of unique places. You as a listener can freely move throughout the recorded scene going closer, further, up, or down from the sound source. Moreover, spatial resolution is so high that you have a feeling of being “there”. We are presenting a complete solution for 6DoF audio capture, recording, and control, this new offering helps users to streamline and optimize the capture of 3D audio for virtual reality and augmented reality applications." added Zernicki.
