Yamaha Introduces New TW-E5B True Wireless Earbuds for Better Hearing

March 7 2022, 01:10
To signal World Hearing Day, Yamaha announced a new product in its True Sound lineup, focused on better hearing and hearing health. The new Yamaha TW-E5B True Wireless Earbuds are engineered for a superior listening experience and comfort, with a new Listening Care feature that delivers consistent loudness and intelligent equalization, allowing users to enjoy the same full-range sound even at lower listening volumes. The new TW-E5B earbuds also feature an advanced mic design with Qualcomm cVc for improved calls and Ambient Sound, allowing users to be aware of their surroundings.

The new product was announced as part of Yamaha's initiatives to celebrate World Hearing Day, as designated by the World Health Organization, and included the launch of a new Yamaha website "Thinking About Hearing Health." With recent news of the increased risk of hearing loss due to the unsafe listening practices, Yamaha has decided to embark on a campaign to inform people on the importance of 'Safe Listening' and the long-term health of their hearing, launching with this special website for multiple regions including Japan, North America, Europe and China.

One of the issues that Yamaha highlights in the new website is the risk of hearing loss due to continues exposure to high noise levels, which includes - not surprisingly - listening to loud music using headphones for extended periods of time. Due to this important social issue, Yamaha has made Safe Listening central to their new headphone development process to promote safe music listening with headphones.

Since Yamaha re-entered the wireless headphones market in November 2019, all of Yamaha's wireless headphones and earbuds (including TW and YH series) are equipped with Yamaha's Listening Care technology that manages loudness by introducing intelligent equalization at any volume. By maintaining the same consistent loudness and the original music balance, users are less prone to increase the volume.

By launching Yamaha's new TW-E5B True Wireless Earbuds on World Hearing Day, Yamaha aims to spread values of music listening enjoyment, and make an impact on everyday sound levels. "As a world leading brand of sound and music, Yamaha has a connection with a wide range of customers, from music creators to music listeners. It can be one of our social responsibilities to ensure our customers can enjoy music for many years to come," says Yoshiyuki Tsugawa, Senior General Manager of Yamaha Home Audio Division.

In September 2021, Yamaha introduced its smallest, lightest true wireless earbuds with the TW-E3B model using the latest Qualcomm platform for Bluetooth 5 with Qualcomm aptX audio, already featuring Listening Care. The affordable ($99.95 USD) E3B earbuds mainly focused on achieving the smallest form-factor, superior fit and day-long comfort, also enabling a better inner-ear seal for improved noise isolation and sound performance.
Now, Yamaha introduces the TW-E5B, as a superior True Sound option with improved passive noise isolation resulting from its ergonomic design and fit. The TW-E5B earbuds leverage the same Qualcomm Bluetooth 5.2 platform with support for AAC and aptX codecs, low latency gaming mode, and Qualcomm TrueWireless Mirroring, providing a stable Bluetooth wireless connection from virtually any source, while also saving power.

The new earbuds are also equipped with a superior microphone array designed to support Qualcomm’s Clear Voice Capture (cVc) technology for improved voice capture, with a suite of algorithms that deliver echo cancelling and consistent voice quality. The same microphone array helps deliver a superior transparency experience in the Ambient Sound mode, even while listening to music. Unlike active noise cancelling designs, the microphones are used simply to deliver awareness of the user's surroundings.

Sound reproduction in the new TW-E5B earbuds is delivered by a single 7mm dynamic driver, combined with a new acoustic structure where the driver, nozzle, airflow and acoustic space in the earbuds' housings are optimized for a spacious sound, while maintaining the structure to passively cancel surrounding noise. Being slightly larger than the TW-E3B, the new TW-E5B earbuds are an IPX5 water and sweat resistant design that offers 8.5 hours of autonomy on a single charge, with the USB-C case providing charge for a total of 30 hours.

Most of the Listening Safe and other unique features in these earbuds - including configuring touch controls to activate digital assistants - are setup with the Yamaha Headphone Control App, available for iOS and Android, and which also includes some personalization features. The Yamaha TW-E5B earbuds are supplied with four sizes of tips and will be available from mid-April in light grey, denim blue, brown and black, at the recommended price of $159 USD/EUR.
