Waves Audio has joined forces with Burl Audio to include Waves SoundGrid technology in the Burl Audio B80 and B16 Mothership modular platforms. These high-quality modular recording systems   already had options for Pro Tools Digi-link integration as well as MADI and Dante, simply by swapping the motherboards. Now, the collaboration with Waves allows also a SounGrid Network option with the new Burl Audio BMB4 SoundGrid Motherboard.

Founded in 2006, Burl Audio is a pro audio gear engineering and manufacturing company located in Santa Cruz, California. Based out of Paradise Recording and spearheaded by Rich Williams, Burl Audio’s gear is designed in a commercial recording studio, by professional recording engineers, for recording engineers. The philosophy of Burl Audio is to provide the best possible recording devices, in modular outboard units, at a reasonable price. At the core of the brand's solutions, the Burl Audio B80 and B16 Mothership modular platforms allow studios to configure full recording chains with multi-channel AD/DA card options, with options for any recording DAW formats and networking protocols.

Each Mothership converter chassis represents an innovative way of approaching digital conversion with all Class-A, discrete analog circuit with proprietary transformers on input, and op amps on output. The Burl Mothership modular platform of AD/DA convertors - in its powerful 3U B80 format, or the more compact B16 model - is now Waves SoundGrid-compatible, enabling audio over Ethernet connectivity, and offering a high channel count per connection and low latency, by utilizing an ordinary gigabit Ethernet connection.

Waves SoundGrid is an Audio-over-Ethernet technology which allows users to stream high counts of digital audio channels (up to 128) and to process that audio through plugins at ultra-low-latency (as low as 0.8 ms), all taking place over a 1Gb network – beneficial for simple project studios, live venues or for complex networked recording and broadcast facilities.

Each BMB4 Motherboard module effortlessly adds up to 64 SoundGrid channels in the Mothership B80 - or up to 16 SoundGrid channels in the Mothership B16 - of extremely low-latency audio networking, plugin processing and real-time monitoring with plugins. Each BMB4 board connects directly to CPU via Ethernet, with no PCIe card required, supporting 44.1–96 kHz sampling rates, and featuring 2 BNC Word Clock outputs and one Word Clock input.

"With the modular configurability of the Mothership and the flexibility of SoundGrid, the possibilities are limitless," says Rich Williams, Burl Audio president and Head Designer.

“We are delighted to offer Waves SoundGrid technology and the use of Waves plugins for Burl Audio’s B80 Mothership with BMB4 SoundGrid Network Connectivity, thus augmenting the capabilities of the B80 Mothership and substantially increasing its ability to network easily and efficiently,” Mick Olesh, Waves EVP of Sales & Marketing, adds.
