Vicoustic Turns 250 Tons of Recycled Plastic Into Acoustic Panels

April 6 2020, 00:15
Vicoustic turned 250 tons of plastic waste into acoustic solutions - the equivalent to over 22 Million 500ml PET bottles - since it started using VicPET Wool as raw material. With VicPET Wool as the new primary raw material, Vicoustic is changing the acoustic panels market. Consisting of mainly recycled plastic waste (65%), VicPET Wool is specifically designed to optimize acoustic performance while not adding glue, fabric or chemical fire retardant. Focal-Naim America is the distributor for Vicoustic products in the USA and Canada.

Producing acoustic solutions in an environmentally conscious way has been at the forefront of Vicoustic’s mind, gradually replacing foam-based products with VicPET Wool, leading the way for the use of sustainable materials. Since Vicoustic started production with the new raw material, the company has manufactured state-of-the-art acoustic panels using more than 250 tons of plastic waste, equivalent to roughly 22 Million standard PET bottles (500ml) being recycled.

Through extensive research and testing, Vicoustic fine-tuned VicPET Wool into Virtual Material Technology (VMT), using an innovative dyeing technology, which allows simulating concrete, marble, wood and other materials. VMT solutions are washable, resistant, easy to cut, and provides a great acoustic solution to implement in any setting, ranging from recording studios and home theaters to workspaces, hospitality, retail, education and even in private homes. VMT can be found across a wide range of products such as Flat Panel VMT, ViClouds VMT, VicWallpaper VMT, VicOffice, and Vixagon VMT.

Vicoustic’s new line of products takes a holistic approach to recycled and recyclable materials, by fully integrating acoustic performance parameters with other sustainability goals, such as air quality, safety, and health. VicPET Wool meets EuroClass B fire regulations and safety standards, it is a low emitting VOC material ensuring air quality to the rooms where it is installed, and is OEKO-TEX 100 Standard certified, meeting the current requirements established for baby products.
