USound has launched Kore 4.0, a fully integrated audio module that incorporates Usound’s Tarvos, a brand new ultra-low power audio amplifier, and Conamara, its latest generation of MEMS drivers. According to the MEMS-based audio technology specialist, with its compact form factor, superior audio performance, and low power consumption, Kore 4.0 is an ideal match for hearables and Over-The-Counter (OTC) hearing aids.
According to the Austrian company, the Kore 4.0 UMC-P04C06012F integrated audio module is designed to boost the audio performance of true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds and hearing aids, at the smallest form factor. Following years of research and development, USound is now showcasing the first samples in March 2023. This is a ready-to-use solution that the audio industry can immediately incorporate in ongoing designs, allowing manufacturers to benefit from the consistency, robustness, and low power levels enabled by MEMS microspeakers.
The new audio module features USound’s patented technology, including the Conamara MEMS microspeaker, one of the thinnest on the market, integrated with USound’s Tarvos ASIC linear audio amplifier, making it one of the most compact audio solutions for hearables. It can be seamlessly integrated with any Bluetooth System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and is customizable for mid and high-volume applications. Its form-factor also allows further miniaturization and saves space for more sensors and components.
The Kore 4.0 audio module offers high sound pressure levels over the full audio bandwidth (20Hz – 40kHz) with low power consumption, making it an optimal solution for OTC hearing aids. For TWS earbuds, it delivers above-class audio performance fulfilling hi-res audio up to a bandwidth of 40kHz. Since the solution is built with IPx8 certified USound MEMS speakers from the Conamara series, it reduces the complexity of manufacturing waterproof audio products. With a suitable seal, any audio product can achieve IP68.
The new ASIC linear audio amplifier Tarvos 1.0 UC-P3010, unveiled by USound in October 2022, is a power-efficient amplifier that exceeds market demands, reaching 0.9 mA quiescent current consumption, extending the playtime of TWS earbuds and hearing aids.
Ferruccio Bottoni, CEO of USound, stated that the company's goal is to provide top-of-the-line audio solutions that cater to its customers' needs. "The Kore 4.0 audio module is a game-changer for OTC hearing aids, delivering high-quality audio in a compact and energy-efficient package. We are excited to showcase the first samples to key customers and share this innovation with the world."
Expressing his excitement to offer the Kore 4.0 audio module to customers, Andrea Rusconi, CTO of USound is confident that this solution will meet the market requirements and accelerate bringing products to market due to its versatility and customization capabilities for mid and high-volume applications. The company has already released customer samples to selected partners, and the product will be available on major electronics distribution platforms starting March 2023.
