Ultimate Ears Pro unveiled the new UE Premier in-ear monitors at the 2023 NAMM show. The new flagship IEMs feature an industry-leading 21 balanced armature drivers per side to deliver unparalleled fidelity and performance. Careful design in cooperation with Knowles, from the choice of drivers to crossovers, allowed Ultimate Ears Pro to achieve the best possible frequency response, to an extended frequency range of 5Hz to 40kHz.
Founded in 1995, Ultimate Ears created a new market for custom in-ear monitors which are now used by most of the world's top touring musicians. The first in-ear monitor was developed for
Alex Van Halen by his monitor engineer to give him a way to protect his hearing while allowing him to perform better on stage. In 2008, Ultimate Ears partnered with Logitech, and has since created over 100,000 sets of in-ear monitors for musicians and music lovers.
As part of its continuous drive to be better, Ultimate Ears has embraced the advantages of digital processes, where each product is handcrafted, precision-tuned and custom tailored to fit the unique contours of the ear, isolating it from any external noise. This starts with a unique digital scan or physical impression of the ear, after which experts modify the shape to improve comfort and fit for all of the key audio and electronic components where each detail is meticulously developed. The custom ear shell is printed using the latest 3D printing techniques.
The UE Premier engineering and design effort was not intended exclusively to respond to the ultimate demands of an elite of performing musicians looking for the best in-ear monitors. As the UE Pro team describes, these are their most "powerful, nuanced and versatile in-ear monitors to date" and will easily meet the requirements for performing live on stage, recording in the studio, or listening to music with professional sound quality. Setting a new gold standard for sound quality in the category.
"Building upon the success of the groundbreaking UE Live, we wanted to push ourselves to the limit of what was previously thought possible," says Philippe Depallens, VP & General Manager, Ultimate Ears Pro. "Our team of experts embarked on a mission to take our technology further than ever before. UE Premier represents the pinnacle of UE Pro innovation, with immersive studio-quality sound that brings even the most intricate details into focus."
Each of UE Premier's 21 drivers was chosen in the pursuit of audio excellence. Working in tandem with a five-way passive crossover, each driver was carefully selected and individually tuned to efficiently and accurately reproduce different frequency bands across the audio spectrum.
To extend the frequency range down to 5Hz and ensure a low-end listeners can feel without compromising on size, the UE Premier design starts with two dual sub-low drivers in parallel with four dual mid-low drivers. A quad-mid driver provides unmatched nuance, clarity and adaptability no matter the instrument, genre or listening environment. UE Pro’s proprietary True Tone driver and Knowles’ proprietary Quad Super Tweeter extends the frequency range up to 40kHz.
The new UE Premier IEMs are available at pro.ultimateears.com in the USA and internationally through Ultimate Ears Pro’s dealer distribution network for USD $2,999. Swappable faceplates and all types of accessories are also available. Orders will ship on May 15, 2023.
