Solid State Logic 360° V1.6 Software Update Elevates DAW Integration

October 13 2023, 00:05
Solid State Logic (SSL) launched SSL 360° v1.6, a software update that enhances its range of studio hardware controllers and 360°-enabled plug-ins with key new features and workflows. The V1.6 update introduces several key new features, including increased DAW integration for VST3 DAWs, a MIDI CC Layer, customizable soft key colors, and follow selected track functionality for UF1. Additionally, there are supporting plug-in updates for 4K B, Channel Strip 2, Bus Compressor 2, and Meter.

The V1.6 update highlights SSL's commitment to remaining at the forefront of modern studio production workflows, with many of the new features driven by user feedback. The new range of control surfaces from the British company (now part of Audiotonix) seems to have it the sweet spot in the studio market. The latest SSL UF1 DAW Control Centre, designed to offer a complete and versatile single fader control surface for any DAW, perfectly complements the previous UF8 and UC1 control surfaces, enabling project studios, post-production suites or even sound designers working in spatial audio productions to benefit from an extremely powerful virtual SSL Console.

Enhancements in this SSL 360 V1.6 update includes enhanced DAW interoperability for the SSL UC1, UF8, and UF1 controllers, now offering even tighter integration with VST3 DAWs like Cubase, Nuendo, Live, Studio One, REAPER, and LUNA. This integration provides control of DAW faders, pans and sends from the UC1/UF8/UF1 and the 360° Plug-inMixer. The new integration also synchronizes the DAW track color and displays longer track names.

The update also introduces additional UF8 & UF1 pre-configured workflow templates, including for the new Harrison Mixbus and REAPER DAW templates. The SSL 360° Plug-in Mixer is also improved with collapsible sections, a scalable GUI with two different 'Zoom' views, and the ability to control A/B, HQ Mode, and Undo/Redo directly from the Plug-in Mixer. Cubase and Nuendo users can now choose between +6 and +12 fader mapping in the UF8 and UF1.

The new MIDI CC layer for UF8 and UF1 allows control of virtual instruments, sample libraries, and MIDI equipment. Users can map, rename, and color CC controls across UF8 and UF1 'MIDI CC' Layers. The UF1 surface now supports automatic track follow in select DAWs via MCU and improved FADER SEL channel scrolling for easier access to all tracks in the DAW session. And users can now select from 12 different colors for any of the UF8's 43 or UF1's 46 rubber softkeys.

The UF8, UF1, and UC1 hardware controllers all receive enhancements such as adjustable brightness for the LEDs, set via the SSL 360° CONTROL SETUP page, allowing users to reduce controller brightness in dark studio environments.

The SSL 360 V1.6 is a free update that can be downloaded from the SSL Download Manager app or from the HOME page of the SSL 360°. The supporting updates to 360°-enabled plug-ins (4K B, Channel Strip 2, Bus Compressor 2 and Meter) can be downloaded from the SSL Download Manager.

These solutions will be demonstrated by SSL at AES conference in New York (booth 824), serving as the global debut of the new SSL 360° V1.6 software.
