Softube Updates Console 1 Hybrid Mixing System Concept

December 13 2021, 05:10
Swedish audio innovator Softube announced the biggest software update so far to its groundbreaking plug-in controller, Softube Console 1 Mixing System. With this latest release, the company adds even more responsiveness and control to the hybrid mixing system that launched its own approach and controller ecosystem by targeting direct support from other renowned audio manufacturers, instead of just worrying about DAW compatibility.

The Softube Console 1 Mixing System software update includes additional command over the drive and width sections from the Console 1 hardware, advanced visuals and metering, improved frequency analysis, independent exchange of drives and channel strip filters, and the ability to load distortion plug-ins — like Softube Tape — in the shape section.

The comprehensive update of the Console 1 Mixing System comes primarily in response to the needs of its users. Softube painstakingly analyzed feedback from Console 1 Mixing System owners and worked diligently to upgrade the system to meet the current demands of modern music production.

The new Console 1 Mixing System software now offers the possibility to select drive from the Console 1 hardware without changing the entire channel strip; improved fader and knob movements; new meters for RMS (inner) and Peak dBFS (outer) on both input and output; and the capability to adjust the input gain and width in the output section from the Console 1 hardware and software.

Also new is the possibility to exchange channel strip filters without affecting other sections, as well as load Tape, Harmonics, and Overstayer M-A-S into the shape section to distort before the EQ. An improved FFT frequency analyzer, including four new operating modes derived from the highly appreciated Weiss EQ plug-ins is now available, together with track color coordination for supported DAWs within the Console 1 Mixing System software and hardware units. There's also a new meter bridge showing output volume, fader, and track, or strip and color for easier navigation.

User improvements include the possibility to survey 10 to 20 tracks with Track Overview Mode, now on both the Console 1 and Console 1 Fader units; persistent modes in Console 1 Fader for sends, input gain, and filter; and new color schemes for individual strips were added to make it simpler to identify which strip a section belongs to. There's also added support for more languages, such as Cyrillic, and Greek.

In one of the most significant developments, the Console 1 Mixing System will now also offer Universal Audio plug-in compatibility, including support for UA 175 B & UA 176, SSL 4000 E Channel Strip, SSL G Bus Compressor, Century Strip, Tube-Tech CL 1B MkII, Avalon VT-737 Tube Channel Strip, and API 2500.

Softube has been creating software plug-ins and hybrid hardware/software solutions since 2003, and its affordable software of 1:1 hardware control over dedicated software and DAW parameters, with officially-licensed channels from Weiss Engineering, Empirical Labs, Chandler Limited, Summit Audio, and Solid State Logic, helped to expand the possibilities of an hybrid modular system with hardware and software plug-ins for music creators and studios.
