Sensory Introduces Emergency Vehicle Detection System for Enhanced Road Safety

October 15 2024, 14:10
Sensory, the embedded AI and voice recognition technology specialists from Santa Clara, CA, announced the availability of a new cutting-edge Automotive Siren Detection System. An expansion of the company’s DSP software suite running on-device, the solution is designed to improve road safety by providing reliable, real-time detection of emergency vehicle sirens, particularly critical in autonomous vehicles, but increasingly required by electric vehicles with active acoustics.

As autonomous driving technologies and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) continue to evolve, the ability to quickly and accurately detect emergency vehicles on the road has become critical. Sensory’s Automotive Siren Detection System addresses this need with a highly efficient, Emergency Vehicle Detection (EVD) embedded solution that delivers critical detection accuracy while minimizing power consumption. A sophisticated DSP (Digital Signal Processing) application and highly accurate revalidation process, is designed to revolutionize how vehicles respond to emergency situations to enhance safety for all road users.

“Our 100% cloud-free Automotive Siren Detection System sets a standard in automotive safety,” says Todd Mozer, CEO of Sensory. “With embedded EVD, we’re enabling faster, reliable responses to emergency situations for autonomous vehicles and drivers alike. We’re doing this using existing microphones in the car, which offers lower cost of enablement for automotive companies.”

The system leverages digital signal processing (DSP) to continuously monitor and filter out non-siren noises, ensuring that emergency vehicle sirens are detected with over 99% accuracy. Sensory’s solution operates entirely on-device, eliminating the need for cloud connectivity and providing real-time detection even in areas without internet access. The system is designed for low power consumption, using just 5 MIPS during standby mode and 34 MIPS during revalidation, ensuring minimal impact on vehicle processing resources.

According to Sensory, the high-accuracy EVD implementation ensures over 99% accuracy in real-life road conditions and ensures timely detection and response to emergency vehicles. Using advanced noise filtering, more than 99.5% of non-siren audio is filtered, improving accuracy and reducing false alarms. Being an embedded software solution, Sensory’s EVD works with existing in-cabin microphones or sensor-based implementations in both new and existing vehicles.

Sensory’s Automotive Siren Detection System is available for integration into vehicles today, providing a critical enhancement to road safety for drivers and passengers alike. As autonomous vehicles become increasingly prevalent, Sensory’s siren detection technology provides a vital layer of awareness, enhancing the ability of autonomous vehicles to respond swiftly and appropriately to emergency situations.

The system is designed to be highly adaptable and efficient, fitting seamlessly onto many DSPs with models smaller than 500kB. At the application level, the solution’s model size is a compact 2.2MB, ensuring it operates smoothly without overburdening the system. Sensory also provides customized tools to enhance the system’s versatility, allowing for easy integration and optimal performance.
